Just wanted to let you guys know that I found a super easy solution to the mp10 impeller shaft issues on the wet side.

I know there are a few threads on here about fixing it with heat shrink, but it doesn’t quite work right. I found the easiest method possible and it costs $1.79 for a 10 pack of repairs. Bic Cristal xtra smooth 1mm medium pen. Pull the in tube out, cut the end off and it slides right over the metal shaft and in between the impeller.

You may have to pull the ceramic portion out of your impeller if it isn’t loose. All in all it took me about 10 minutes. I hope this helps. Photo of the pen and tools used attached.

My next topic will be the bearing services.

Excellent DIY idea. I love it. How long will this "Bic replacement shaft cover" last? Would you show the DIY Bic MP10 impeller shaft, please.

My pleasure. I have one more to do, so I’ll do a step by step DIY. I know the pictures can be size heavy, so it may be multiple posts.

Here’s a couple photos showing the steps. The most important thing, after doing 3 of these I found that none of the mp10’s shafts were the same size. You want to make sure that the ink tube slides on freely. For one of mine that was stiff, I ran some sand paper over the shaft. I don’t recommend you try that if you don’t have spare parts, but for me it was a no brainer. What did I have to lose?

When pushing the ceramic tube out, if it is stuck, it’s a 3/16” tube. I pushed it out with a punch very carefully. Side note, please wear safety glasses. Because you just never know.

Make sure to cut the excess tubing to match the length of your old one, possibly a little longer to allow free play. Good luck!

Thank you for posting.

I believe you inserted the MP10 steel shaft into the ballpen plastic tube. Is this correct?

Secondly, which brand of ballpen you used? (There are Bic and Paper Mate showed)

Whoops. That’s my mistake. I used the paper mate in the last photo. And yes, the pen tube slides over the mp10 shaft. Make sure it spins freely on the shaft. It can be stiff on the magnet side.

Very cool. Thank you for sharing.

It’s been a while. How did this hold up long term on your mp10?
Given that ceramic impeller shafts are typically precision ground to sub-micron surface smoothness, and are designed to pulverize any grit that gets between impeller and shaft… I wouldn’t expect it to be a long-term solution!
