I’ve had this chalice since August 9th and it has been doing great until 3 weeks ago. It has been slowly receding. The only thing that has changed is I have been slowly bringing up the dkh from 7-8.5 and Mag from 1320-1400. So right now salinity is 1.026, Ca460, Alk8.5, Mag1400, Nitrates 2ppm, Phosphates.2 or lower, PH8.1, Temp78, lights are 2 AI Vegas Blues80%, White15%,Green10%, red5%(I’m getting the local clubs PAR meter today), Icecap 1k at 20% which is a lot of flow. The first image is when I got it August 9th, second is Sept23rd and the last is today.

I feed it twice a week but also it gets feed when the fish do. I just made a years worth of fish food and added some of the new BRS freeze dries products.

can post a pic of its location compared to the light so I can get a idea because I feel like to much light. if you are seeing it eat then that is not the issue because the water numbers loo great

I just got the PAR meter and did a quick reading. At the Chalice it’s reading 155-160. So I dropped the blues down to 60% and that brought it down to 100-110. Can it take a chalice 2 months before showing signs of too much light. I would like to have some SPS in the tank but there is no area that has above 200. I have the meter for 2 weeks so I will play around with the settings and the height of the lights.

As far as chemistry swings. I dose Ca and Alk. The ALK I use a DIY dripper. It drips 28mL in about 12hrs.

What would be the best height for the AI Vegas. The tank is 36Hx15Dx18H. Light is 30” from the bottom of the tank and 11”AWL. I’ve reduced the blues down to 60% all other channels have not changed.

Green Candy Cane-150, Chalice-110, Top Rock-180, Paly-115, Blue Zoas-110, Bottom Frogspawn- 95, Blue Candy -130, Top Frogspawn -130, Duncan -70, Gmk -100

It’s only been a day. I’m hoping it will help the green Candy Cane also. It has swiveled up for the past few months. It was at a PAR of 190 now it’s down to 140-150. I asked this in the other reply but with the chalice can it take two months before it shows signs of too much light while still growing and looking happy?

it depends on how close to over lighting vs normal lighting for em. for instance 400 par would have a faster reaction than the 160. idk your parameters are good so I don't think it is that. how is water flow?

I’ll do a video tomorrow to show the flow and it looks like good flow. But I have a IceCap 1k with one blade at 20%. Don’t know if the return would also be counted for flow but I have a Mag9.5 with the height from the pump to the tank it should be around 700gph. So with the gyre and return Pump it might be close to 1000gph.

Well the chalice has continued to recede. I decided to move it today to my late fathers tank which is a 90 gallon. Since its a bigger tank I'm able to find some low flow areas. I did check the return pump flow on the 40 gallon and its between 400-500gph. So when I was running the gyre at 20% with one blade(250gph) I was only getting 650-750gph. Its crazy because even at that low flow it was looking like a lot of flow.

Here is a video of the flow of one blade at 20%.

This is a picture of the chalice in the 90 gallon. In this spot it’s getting 100 or less PAR.

does that power head constant flow? or does it have some sorta controller to pulse or turn on and off? might be a dead spot. how are you testing water/ how often water change. I would think ten percent water change once a week would be enough for ca alk and mg. hum ill post you a vid of my flow in a bit. this sorta has me stumped I cant pin down I what it could be but I am rely guessing its between chemistry light and flow. hum...

Its the IceCap 1k Gyre and in the video its on pulse mode. It was not in a dead spot because I could see the mouths move. Since I had already moved the chalice into the other tank I put the palys in its place so you could see the movement. Salifert test kits every week before the water changes. Water changes are not enough so I have been dosing for almost a year. I decided to stop dosing on Friday because the ALk had climbed from 8.45 to 9.05 that was from the last water change to Friday before the water change. So on Saturday I did the water change and its down to 8.75. From that day to today which is 3 days it went from 8.75 to 7.45 without the dosing. I'm hoping moving it into the bigger take will help it out. As long as the parameters stay stable do chalices prefer a certain Alk,CA,Mag. One thing I noticed last tight was that the temperature probe was miss-reading. I tested the water with a floating thermometer and it was reading 81 when the probe was showing 78.

Here is a ICP test I did last month.

I see. Nah mine are not picky. I have my reading pretty high to be honest. 450 ca 8.9 all 1380 mg. All 5 of my chalices seem to not mind it. Idk like I said I'm a little stumped. Sorry I haven't been much help.

One thing I forgot to mention was that I dipped it I think a week ago or so in Coral Rx. I do have Revive but don’t want to stress it out anymore.

I think it was from the changes in the AlK . Im far from an expert but i had the same chalice a smaller piece do the same thing from my Alk dropping . With mine i tried to put it in shaded area made sure tried to target feed but stopped eating and finally died . Im hoping for yours to recover !

The receding started before the ALK drop.
