My 40 gallon recife build

I think Holly and JoJo are using cooking terms as code. And you’re playing right into their hands.
Of all the things in life I might have to worry about, that would never even cross my mind.

No worries. He turned me down at $1,500 which I think is even a bit more than what it’s worth. I may just get it locally at my LFS or order it online at some point. I am not in a rush for it. It honestly will make me feel better to get the warranty with something of that size. Innovative Marine also offered a $300 gift card to algae barn if I ordered it today which I am considering. I may wait though we shall see. He has it listed only for a week or so but I Imagine he is not going to get many offers when it’s listed at 2k and the tank costs 2.1k.
He’s high.

It won’t sell unless he finds a fool.

Did you tell him about the $300 gift card offer?

Agreed. Tanks are even worse than cars used to be. You lose 40% value just driving it off the lot.

I told him I could get it at my LFS with warranty at $2.1k now that would be without gift card. Online I can pay for shipping at like 2.5k and get $300 gift card so its similar but its delivered to my door. I did tell him about the 2.1k. I would need to pick it up and honestly paying the $100 for that may be worth it since I don't have to worry about it breaking in transit lol.

If he comes back to me I may go back to the 1250. Its just going to be a hard item to sell. I honestly would think it would not go for more than 1k just like Red_Beard said they lose so much value after its purchased even if new.

I may just get it online too. It depends. I am not in a hurry on it but was trying to make it a win win.

I have to go now. I’ll check later to see any results.

My offer to help still stands.

I, too, would like to offer help, help of a less subtle, let's say more Sicilian nature.
Generous of you. However, that is already covered as part of my help.

So it’s important to check with the supplier on what they put in their water for acclimation. Some places ship their fish in very low salinity like 1.021 (for some reason) and if you don’t drip acclimation that can shock and kill the fish not instantly but in a couple of days. Others like Biota put something in the water so if you drip acclimate then you actually kill the fish lol. They actually say if you drip acclimate it, then they void the claims process. They do ship it at 1.026 though. They put something in the water to help with the shipping process but say you can not drip acclimate as the chemical will kill the fish if they stay in the water exposed to air.

I would just quickly check the salinity because if it’s way off you may have to drip acclimatize them. If not then just temp acclimation and drop.
Biota and several others add an additive to neutralize ammonia, if you drip acclimate them, this dilutes the additive and the ammonia rapidly increases which can kill the fish. If ordering online, find out if they add anything or if the water contains copper. Most places say to just temp acclimate, take fish out of bag and toss them in. Well, not actually toss... but, use a net, scoop them and lower them in to their new glass prison!! <evil laugh>

Curious if I can get your guys opinions on this.

Someone is selling an NUVO SR Pro 2 that they said was setup and never used. Worried about warranty or if they got it blemished or if its broken etc. Full sale price brand new its $2,151.00. At my LFS I can get it for around that. Seller is around 2 hours away so I would need to rent a car & drive there and back in a car that could fit the tank and stand since its already assembled.

Curious what you guys think is fair to offer. No equipment comes with it other than the standard stuff.
Have you seen pictures of the tank? I'd offer them lower than what they are asking and the facts of renting a car, etc... and... technically it is a used tank even if it was never used.

Yeah they are actually selling it on here & FB marketplace lol I messaged them on Facebook market place. They do have posts about purchasing a larger E-Shopps tank as well on here so I do trust that. It also looks legit. etc did my research. Its all good though.

So... if you bought a new one you would get a $300 gift card, warranty and piece of mind? Hmm.. I know what I'd do

Getting it delivered is a huge bonus too. You can open everything and inspect it before the driver leaves to make sure there are no issues. If there are issues, the driver can haul it back with him!

That's exactly my thought as well.

John @kingranch2003 , I found out where all the cool kids are!! You mind if I hang out for a bit on your thread brother?

That's a good movie... it does confuse me as why they wouldn't have any weapons or means to protect themselves though. My wife won't watch it with me because I tell her how'd I would find things to protect myself.
