Sad news.....

I lost the A. pyroferus a couple days ago. 2 days after putting her in quarantine (unmediated) she started exhibiting rapid breathing. Immediately dosed the tank with copper. The next day no appetite, and the next day she died.

While there were no external symptoms, I believe the fish had velvet, and I definitely missed some signs at the fish store, such as the fish being thin. A sad and unfortunate wake-up call for me to step up my game - both with initial fish selection and medication. I believe the medicated store tanks were keeping problems at bay, and when I placed the fish in an unmediated tank, things turned bad very quickly.

Either way, currently treating new quarantine setup with remaining fish with copper, Prazi, and medicated food. All is well for now, and fish show no signs of ailment.

On a little better note, some Chaeto from Algae Barn came in a couple days ago as well, and it is currently in quarantine and will be for the next 74 days or so. This will give time for any Ich to die of, as well as time to inspect for hitchhikers such as Aptasia or Mojanos....

Sorry to hear about the Tang [emoji20]

Thank you NYCM..... It was really crappy, and happened incredibly fast. The mistake I made was not immediately starting prophylactic treatment. Several people reached out with encouragement and advice; in the end, by the time I realized there was a problem, it was too late.

To prevent this issue moving forward, I'm brushing up on my fish disease and treatment knowledge, and have a list of medications on the way, to eliminate lead time when something comes up. I also have a Hanna Copper Colorimeter on the way.

Below is the thread I started on the tang in the Fish Disease Forum.

Because of the complexity of the stand and the plumbing that will be internal to it, it must be assembled in a particular order. Before I can continue with assembly, I must complete the large recess that the sump will sit inside.

This recess will be skinned with white Formica, along with the equipment recess that will be on the right side. I'll go ahead and knock all of it out before moving on, as I can "batch" it.

Really wishing I had a workshop!

Tracing the recess panel onto the back of the Formica so I don't get glue everywhere...

Praying I lay the recess panel on the Formica exactly right on the first try (there is no second try [emoji55])......

My brother Danny came over with his friend from Guatemala (danny is the one in the green shirt) and like only a good brother would, I put them to work!

What's left before the tank is wet...
1. Skin the sides, top, and front with Formica (pic below)
2. Drill holes and install conduit and bulkheads for electrical
3. Drill holes and install bulkheads for plumbing
4. Install plumbing
5. Paint wall behind the display

Shooting to have everything done by the end of this week...

Great build! Good call on QTing your chaeto. I believe that's where my flatworms came from...

Thank you!. Yes, everything that goes in this tank will be 100% quarantined, from corals to sand. If I could QT the water I would :). I've had too many tanks with too many problems to not take the time to do it... This round will be headache free.

Fish get a 30 day copper, Prazi, and medicated food treatment. Anything without a backbone gets a minimum 76 day quarantine, with medication if necessary, and a rigorous inspection with a microscope. [emoji40]

Love the attention to detail, following along!

Thank you for the kind words and please let me know if you have any questions!. Every detail has been thought out, certainly. This is my largest system to date, and what I'm finding is that as display volume increases linearly, the required planning (and cost - ack!) increase exponentially.
