Hi Reefers,

Over time, I’ve tried several different ways to track my tank parameters, but the method that really stuck was creating my own spreadsheet. It tracks each parameter and automatically shows whether values are slightly off or need attention right away. It’s been working great for me, so I decided to make a template to share in case anyone else struggles to stay consistent.

When I first started, I had the bad habit of trying to “fix” parameters the moment they looked off, which usually caused more problems than it solved. After having my nano reef up for a few years now, I’ve learned that nothing beautiful in this hobby happens quickly. This spreadsheet helps me relax and trust the data instead of reacting emotionally.

Feel free to try this method of logging your test results. Over time, you’ll start to see patterns and make more informed adjustments.

Spreadsheet Overview

Weekly Data
Tracks: Date, Week, Salinity, Temperature, pH, Ammonia (ppm), Nitrite (ppm), Nitrate (ppm), Alkalinity (dKH), Calcium (ppm), Magnesium (ppm), and Phosphates (ppm).
This sheet automatically compares your entries to the Standard Parameters sheet and highlights any out-of-range values.

Standard Parameters
Includes industry-standard reef values (which you can edit if you prefer).
Just be sure to keep the same cell structure so the formulas on the Weekly Data sheet work correctly.

Dosing Formulas
This page helps calculate recommended dosing amounts.
You can input your tank volume in cell B1 (where “X” is) and use your preferred formulas. I’ll keep adding more as I refine my setup, but for now, this covers everything my tank needs to stay healthy.

It’s been a game-changer for keeping my nano stable. Hope it helps someone else find the same balance between patience and precision!

The Excel/Google sheet is ready to go

Google Sheet
(You'll be prompted to "Make a Copy" and it will be saved to your personal Google Drive.)

Excel
(via Google Drive downloadable .xlsx file that will open in Excel)

Please let me know if you run into any trouble

Happy Reefing!

Your spreadsheet sounds clever. The reasons for doing it and the epiphany you had about not reacting to parameter values are for me the big story here. Good luck!
