Oh man, you “Fish police” are going to hate me for this haha.My max nano, I’ve been on and off the idea of either Goni dominant, mushroom dominant or a Gorgonian dominant tank. I have balanced a thought of mainly SPS aswell.
Did you end up getting the Starry Blenny? How has it worked out for you?I love reef tanks, and I recently downsized from a 125 gallon reef tank to my present 29 gallon reef tank. I did it because I had to. I wasn't able to keep the 125 any longer but I need to keep a reef tank as it is my favorite hobby. I really enjoy the nano tank, but I do miss my larger tank and the options it gave me because of the size. I was going to put the baby yellow tang in my nano tank into my 125 when it got too large for my nano, but now I am going to have to rehome it and never again keep a tang. My algae eating fish of choice for the nano is going to be a starry blenny. I have tuxedo urchins and snails in the tank right now to assist with algae removal.
I have a starry blenny that I inherited. Are you wanting to get one?Did you end up getting the Starry Blenny? How has it worked out for you?
I am definitely thinking about Starry Blenny as a potential addition. They seem like a pretty cool fish with unique behaviors and good benefit to the tank.I have a starry blenny that I inherited. Are you wanting to get one?
He is so cool. He’s like 5” long and we call him grandpa. He’s an algae machine. Tries to be mr king of the tank but my tangs won’t let him. I didn’t like him much when I first got him but now I love him

Does yours subsist from algae in the tank or do you supplement? Did you have to train it to pellets/algae sheets/other?
Well, I didn’t attach a photo of all the gobies because I got another 2 to replace my pink streak (I’m giving that species a break after having 2 die within 2 weeks).Oh man, you “Fish police” are going to hate me for this haha.
My max nano in the future was not what I expected. Fish:
- Koumansetta hectori
- Stonogobiops yasha
- Gobiodon acicularis
- Discordipinna griessingeri (VERY soon - Will attach a photo of all my gobies when I get her).
- Cirrhilabrus naokoae
- Macropharyngodon bipartitus
- Pseudocheilinops ataenia
- Escenius lineatus
Clearly I went mushroom dominant and added a Green Rhodactis from the previous photo. Also added some GSP, a nice healthy hammer colony, and caulastrea.
Attempting to do a nice GSP wall on the back of the tank. Just moved it if you’re wondering what the purple blob is.
The fact it’s a bare bottom makes it even more intriguing. I’ve seen very few bare bottom nanos so it’ll be interesting to see how yours goesMy nano tank! A Fluval Flex 15 gallon

And a couple other photos of some fish and coral!
Trimma tevegae (Pair), these are less then an inch and smaller than my D. griessingeri
The Hammer Coral. The photo speaks for itself!
Macropharyngodon bipartitus, this is a grow out tank until she’s brave and big enough to go into the 4’ tank.
Stylophora, the colour I don’t actually know I think it’s meant to be blue or purple but I could be wrong.
Acropora yongei, my purple slimer. Green base and blue tips, a beautiful coral nonetheless.
Florida ricordea, not a rare colour but it has two mouths and has had them for a year now so I figured I’d post about it as its unusual.
Stonogobiops yasha, beautiful and over 2 years old, hoping to get him to 2.5 years if not 3 years.
Funny enough I bought a Florida ric recently which also has two mouths. I figured that meant it was splitting.Well, I didn’t attach a photo of all the gobies because I got another 2 to replace my pink streak (I’m giving that species a break after having 2 die within 2 weeks).

Escenius lineatus, my love hate relationship with this fish is strong. Great personality but he’s constantly sitting ontop of or next to my A. yongei.
Discordipinna griessingeri, this fish eats frozen like it’s going out of fashion at night! Any bit that lands next to him he’ll grab. Nice and fat and he does actually seem to be pushing the 1 inch mark which is a large specimen of D. griessingeri. The photo was taken a few days after introducing the T. tevegae and he was out during daylight hours.
That’s what I thought aswell. But it seems to just grow and grow instead of split. I’ll need to get a photo at some point of it fully extended, it could easily be a showpiece mushroom.Funny enough I bought a Florida ric recently which also has two mouths. I figured that meant it was splitting.
Here is my new 20 gallon nano reef. It just got done cycling and will be doing the first water change this weekend!I was shocked by the amount of people who had a Nano aquarium based on the results of a poll from yesterday. Today I'm thinking we need to see these nano tanks so that may inspire some of us "nano-less" reefers to get one going!
1. Do you have a photo of your nano past or present that you would share? ADD IT!
2. Is there a particular reason you have a nano tank? Special nano fish, species only, you just love them etc?

Thanks! I’ll keep updating my build thread as new things happen to the tank! The fact it’s a bare bottom makes it even more intriguing. I’ve seen very few bare bottom nanos so it’ll be interesting to see how yours goes
The GSP rock in the corner is stunning!
thank youThe GSP rock in the corner is stunning!
Same with the leathers in there, I love the leathers and believe many of them are underrated.
