Hey guys
Last wednesday I got my naso tang. The little guy shows no signs of ich but has sometimes stress points (not over the day but in the morning and over the night). The problem ist that he just wan't eat at all. It's the fourth day now. I tried nori and some kinds of frozen food, even red algea from my display tank. I'm really worried right now.... I have not seen him scratching anywhere. He hides sometimes in his pvc tubes but is swimming outside, not fast but he moves around pretty much when he isn't hiding.
I don't know what I can do now, I really do not want to loose him :(

Naso Tangs are known for this. Especially larger ones.
I've had several naso Tangs that refused to eat.
No signs of stress, nothing wrong that I can see but they refuse to eat.
I don't know the magic trick to get them to start eating.
Just do your best to keep the water in good condition and provide the food.

Good luck.

I LOVE naso’s! But, with all the research I’ve done over the years I just won’t try to keep one in fear of losing it. As said above, some just will not eat no mater what, unfortunately. Again, keep very clean water, keep the food available, and cross your fingers!

Good luck

Naso L. is a much harder fish to keep than is generally assumed, mainly because they often don’t eat or stop eating. Offer a variety of stuff and perhaps something will take.

Also...
Not to sound rude but that water looks a bit murky.
Test your water an GENTLY act accordingly.

Still waiting for answers to the questions I asked.
Hopefully we can get this fish to eat.

Is his stomach pinched?
How big is the tang?
What are the water parameters?
Lights on or off?

He is in qt so nitrates and everything else is at 0. He is around 3 inches big. He had no lights until today but i took them off. At afternoon he starts to come out everyday and is not shy at all but still doesnt want to eat..

I think its a bit cloudy because of the rocks i put in there from the dt. Nothing else could really made it like that. I didn't use any meds until now.

Keep testing the water.
How's flow in the tank?
What meds are you using?
Why?
What are you using for filtration?

The test results are very good. He has a powerhead and a spongefilter with an airstone. The spongefilter and rocks from my dt are for filtration. He is the only fish in the qt. I do not use any meds at the moment on him.
I'm preparing a 25% waterchange right now.

What is "very good"?
How long has the qt been up and running?
Have you used any bacteria supplement for filtration?

I used some microbelift bacteria. The tank was setup on monday this week. Nitrate and ammonia are on 0.

One of my stand by foods for picky eaters is reef nutrition roe. I don't have a naso but my yellow and tomini go for it as do all the gobies and even my Mandarin.

Ime, reef nutrition is good but expensive. After some research I found that (at least part of) the reason it's more expensive is the way they preserve the food. They don't use phosphates which helps keep nutrients lower in the tank. Anyway, in general I do like their line of foods the ones that really seem to entice picky eaters are 1.roe 2. Artic pods
