I got back into reefing about a year ago and in my 220gal reef tank I had my algae bloom for the tank being set in and that’s normal all of it’s gone now but this one algae who takes over bad I’ve done my best to pick and keep up with it we increased nitrates up a tad to help slow the growth and I got tuxedo urchins butt load of all types of snails yes including turbos I have 4 lawnmower Benny’s sand plus a lot of other cleaners

So my question is first what is it second how to get rid of it is there a easier way than purging the rock in dip

Side note: yes I know the algae doesn’t look to bad that’s because I just deep brush cleaned 75% of it

Hi and Welcome to Reef2Reef.

Looks like you might have more than one type of algae, one area looks like Byropsis.
Compare images of Byropsis with what your seeing in your tank. If it's Byropsis use the search engine for current treatments. If it's not Byropsis checkout
Reefcleaners.org for ID and possible treatment.

If there a nutrient issue going on?

That’s exactly what it is thank you and no nutrient issues I run dosage systems Red Sea 4 part kit

Can you give me a better idea of how many snails for real? You might need upward of 2 Turbos per gallon, so I doubt you really have "a lot" but let me know.

(Scavengers don't really count as CUC for this.)

Just in case it helps, I think it looks really bad....like it's been let to grow far too long. It's too easy to allow this to happen. (Ask me how I know.)

IMO redouble your efforts at manual removal, but do a more thorough job. Focus each time you work on a small area, something like 2"x2" and completely clear that area of ALL ALGAE. If you can, gently move a snail from elsewhere in the tank to your newly cleaned spot so they know it's ready for them (they hunt based on memory and will be avoiding spots with grown out algae). Then move to another 2"x2" area. Repeat until it's gone.

If you're experiencing re-growth after cleaning, that's a definitive sign that you either did not clean the spot well or (just as likely) your cleanup crew is still inadequate in number.

Micron filtration and UV filtration can both help slow down spreading due to killing and removing algae swarmers in the tank.

Can you post all the water tests you have results for, including NO3, PO4, s.g. and temperature? (I'd like to see PO4 levels ≥ 0.10 ppm and NO3 levels ≥ 5 ppm.)

Almost forgot to mention there are spot treatment options for areas that you think require it:

That is bryopsis, I had a bad case of this and found out no fish or snail will touch this stuff I tried everything. Manual removal never kills it. Flux Rx was amazing! Killed it for good.
