Hey guys, so Im about to have my first tank with a sump, I’ve had a canister filter on a mixed reef for about 5 years and now I’m upgrading.
When you get new fish or coral, after acclimation, you top the tank off with salt water correct? I’ve been looking it up and found things that say top off with RODI water which doesn’t make sense to me as that would lower the salinity. What’s the proper way
And also, would it be easier to acclimate with a drip from the sump since the auto top off is down there (if you were to hook it up to a salt water source)? Or do you just do it from the display

top off with new salt water....(or just use from acclimation tank again)....
it would be difficult from sump as drip acclimation is gravity fed, unless you are using a pump, then its OK

I figured from the tank but pour it into the display? I thought possible contamination from the store water

Right, so it works that the display tank level doesn’t get lower just the sump? How does that work gravity?

The return pump is running and keeps display the same level and the level lowers in the return section only.

The return pump is running and keeps display the same level and the level lowers in the return section only.

You removed 5 cups, add back 5 cups of matching saltwater OR do nothing and let the 10% water change fix it when the day comes.

Drip acclimate from display and let gravity do the work.
Thanks!
