I just got this duncan from WWC and had acclimated it, but not dipped because I didn’t want to continue stressing it out. After being in the tank for a bit I realized it had this brown film around the base. Started to look into if it is Brown Jelly Disease and I’ve gotten mixed opinions and information. Some say it secretes this film when stressed (especially when bullied by a hermit crab who is interested in the algae) and some say its most definitely BJD and to remove immediately. So I did and I have it in CoralRX right now, am I for sure not able to put it back in to make sure my zoas stay okay or can I put it back in? Also is it for sure BJD? First post here sorry if im obviously new.

Temp 77.1
Ph 8.2
Salinity 1.025
dKH 7 (hoping this being low isnt problem)
Nitrates stay at 10
Phosphate 0

Not a good picture but not brown jelly. Brown jelly is very unmistakable, if you have it you know you have it and there's no doubt. You don't have it.

I would raise it higher in the tank though, give it more light and more flow.

7 alk isn’t low

But your phosphates should not be at 0.

That is something you should fix and something that could cause this.

Doesn’t look like BJD to me but need clearer pictures

How old is the tank?
Okay thank you I saw so many people say minimum of 8 alk but also feel like its all the mixed opinions. Thank you!

1 take it out of the tank and smell it. Bjd smells like death. I dont see anything on the actual head which is where bjd would be.
2 turn up the white and blues down to take a pic so we can see it.
3 sand bed is not good for most corals like this. Put it on the rocks. They are pretty hardy corals and can handle a wide range of flow, light and parameters.
4 Bjd should not affect zoas, not 100% certain as there are a few causes thought to bring on bjd.

Thank you for the reply! I did end up smelling it last night and it smells normal. Everything ive seen so far is that its just the duncan stressed out. I am moving it today to most likely its forever spot as long as its doing good when home. Flow and my par should be perfect. And sorry for the bad pics I wish I was home to get better ones.

When the polyps open up, drop a couple mysis shrimp into its mouth, they absolutely love to eat ! Ours was 3 heads from WWC a couple months ago, and already have 4 more showing up. I very lightly feed ours twice a week, very lightly.
