I’d like to get 10-12 small schooling (or shoaling) fish, and have them professionally QT’d. I’ve been working, very successfully, with Dr. Reef. I have about 25 fish in. 375g. I currently have between 5-8 blue/yellow damsels (they don’t school nor are they ever with each other). I think the mantis in my tank that I can’t catch is eating these maybe. I also have 3 Chromis that due school and are model citizens. I have a very heavily sps dominated tank, with shifting sand due to the obnoxiously high turbulent water. What say you?

Following. I'd love to have a group if shoaling fish in my 330. Over the years I tried groups of 7 Blue green chromis twice and both times ended up with one. I tried 5 disbar anthias and ended up with none. I haven't tried a group since.

I've had a shoal of 7 lyretail anthias in my 180 g for a little over 18 months. Contrary to their reputation the ones in my tank eat anything. But I have to say that I got them all from my LFS (unfortunately now out of business) and that they were all eating and healthy when I brought them home and put them into quarantine (even though the LFS quarantines. my rule--nothing goes into my display without being quarantined by me first.) They're beautiful active fish.

I sadly don't have a tank large enough for a shoal, but I've been keeping an eye on my options for when i upgrade in the future. Two options I have seen are Zebra Barred Dartfish and Longspine Cardinalfish.
I do remember doing some research and the dartfish may not shoal as much.
I've seen both at my LFS and the cardinalfish definitely shoal. There's a group of maybe 15+ that all chill together in an area of one of their display tanks.

PS: I don't have the cardinalfish name written down anywhere so I'm not 100% on them, but I've got pics of them shoaling at the LFS and they look like Longspine Cardinalfish.

Good luck. Sounds like you're doing your homework and will make a good decision!

Are Lyretail anthias separated into male and female? Can you send me a picture?

The females are bright orange with a blue ring around their eyes. The male is red, larger, and has an elongated dorsal spine. (Near the center of the group.)

Dişiler gözlerinin etrafında mavi bir halka ile parlak turuncu renktedir. Erkek kırmızı, daha büyüktür ve uzun bir sırt dikenine sahiptir. (Grubun merkezine yakın.)

I bought 3 of the type you see as male with thorns on it and it's been 2 days now. Will they turn into females?

You are doomed.

The males will fight to the death. They will not turn female. Only females can transition to male, and cant transition back. You need to get all female and allow one to naturally turn male

I got a male and female pair, the female still transitioned male, and killed the other male. The fighting couldn’t be stopped, they lived together peacefully a few months then the harassment started and became constant. If the original male even came out in the water the new male chased and nipped.

The tank is too rocky, I don't have the chance to take it out anymore :(
