My personal opinion & speaking from experience, if you have room for a canister filter, I recommend a canister filter. Go with a canister filter that comes with a UV, 4 tray minimum. Good luck
So what canister filter would you use

This tank was running on an eheim, an old school eheim pro 2, model 2028 I believe. Was eventually switched out for a newer canister because parts for the old canister were not available anymore & not being manufactured but the head unit was still going strong. The Germans.

First off most UV's on canisters are pointless.
They do very little, as you need proper flow though the unit for a UV to work.
At best they might help you if your water turns green, but that is about it.

Second, again unless your meticulous in maintenance, like almost to the point u are OCD, or you have excellent nutrient management, you will fail on a canister over a HOB. The maintenance time between both is almost night vs day. The HOB you just pull the tray out, and clean, vs a Canister you need to take it to the sink, and then take it apart, and then spray it down.

So unless you intend to use it as a Media Reactor, which means basically remove all if not most of the sponge, remove the water clarifier pad, and run it that way, they are not recommended in our hobby. I can tell you way more people that have failed on a canister then the ones that actually did well.

Lastly, you might be better off with a Protein Skimmer instead of Both, or even better would be having a protein skimmer and a HOB over a canister, as i feel a skimmer is way more important then both combined for a salt water setup.

But again, the route is yours.
Id look at all the threads that ask for help with green hair algae, or BGA, and you'll see the most common issue was they ran a canister and did almost no maintenance on it. You really need to clean these guys out about every 2 weeks, of not every week. Its like leaving an old filter sock in your sump and never changing it, on the level of how bad they can cause nutrient spikes in your system.

Okay what would you run in the filter

This is a good option. For me in my aio tank I have no media. I just have my skimmer and purigen. If I had a canister I would do 2 biological filters, purigen, 1 mechanical. I'd keep some areas open in case you wanna run phosguard and other medias
