Hey guys so I’m running a fluval sea light on my 90 gallon tank. My corals are doing great I’ve seen some growth and haven’t had issues with any of them, the only issue I have is that brown algae is growing a lot in the tank. The tank is 6 months old and I recall after the first 3 months my algae issue went away but it suddenly came back like a month ago, it’s covered the glass and even the sand bed (also noticed Coraline growing on certain areas). Right now my lights run from 6am to 6pm 100% blue and 90% white. Then from 6pm to 10pm it’s just 100% blue, at 10pm it’s completely off. Am I running my lights too long? Should I only be running blue lights? I have like 5 turbos, a red tux urchin and a Diamond watchman goby to sift my sand ( haven’t seen him in a while) I’ve heard people say to use rodi, I’ve been using the boxed saltwater from my lfs for water changes and for fresh water top off they sell rodi water a dollar per gallon so i use that for my top offs.

where is the coralline growing now?
Tank is 6 mo’s old, doesn’t sound too alarming I guess. I dunno how bad is the brown algae? Can you post a white light pic?
I’d run those lights about 10hrs myself, but some say 12’s OK ... You can run the tank white if you want, the algae wars are different, they balance eventually, just takes a bit.

I found a little coralline on my power head and then I noticed pinkish/red coloring on the corners on my tank I looked up to see if I can tell the difference between coraline or cyano and I was told to try and rub it see if it comes off if not it’s most likely coraline so it didn’t come off so I’m assuming it’s coraline. And I can deff take a pic when I get home from work

I have one too.. run white 52 red 15 everything else 100. The light is good but not great.
You may want to consider a t5 or even a couple of black boxes to support the marine led.

Definitely cut back on white and red run time. This is how I run mine

IMO whites are way too high. White light contributes to unwanted algae growth
Thank you! What would be a good percentage to run for day time? And should I slowly lower the white lights through out the week so it doesn’t stress fish and corals or can I just lower it right away?

Lowering doesnt stress the fish or coral its increasing the light percentage

I think 6am to 10pm is way too long. I run mine from 11am to 10pm and that is considered "long" hours.

And yes, RODI only. That could be adding to your issue.

yes, green plants love red light, but I don’t think going down into 10K-12K is all that bad. I like the look

to no ones surprise, coralline seems to start there often

if you can shell out the $$ get you some genuine old branch rock, or similar, remove whatever pest, it really helps a lot.

Awesome that really helps a lot! I was told by my lfs to run two of the lights for my tank, I bought the last one so I was only able to get one but when I saw my coral growth and the amount of algae I wanted to hold off until i get the algae under control. I only have soft corals and lps in the tank

@Kenojrg
You can't beat t5 saturation. My growth really kicked into high gear with the t5.
My t5 are hydro planet on Amazon. Very similar to what tidal garden runs. Unit runs 115.00 than you have to get the bulbs.
