Need suggestions on how to break up Caribsea Life Rock

Anyone have any suggestions on how to break this piece of rock into smaller pieces. I’ve been going at it for awhile with a flat head screw driver and crowbar with hammer and making little progress. Anyone have an secrets? Please help a girl out. My hand is about to fall off lol

Pre drill with carbide bit. Metal chisel, and metal hammer. Clamp it down if you can

A rock chisel and a 3 or preferably 5 pound sledge hammer should make short work of it and will give you less vibration (more absorbed by chisel instead of hand).

Need to be able to crack the rock. A rubber mallet is going to absorb that instead of the rock. They're made to not damage the thing they are strinking.

You wont feel it on your hand. Get a heavy hammer not a regular one. If you use a heavy metal headed hammer you wont feel anything but the rock breaking

That makes sense. Just wish I had thought of that before I went at it for so long.

Get a metal hammer instead of that rubber mallet. You're wasting a lot of your blows in rebound. A metal hammer and chisel will blast right thru.

Yep. You could just take a normal ~2lb nailing hammer and one solid blow to a flat spot would spider crack that thing in a few pieces.

Ask me how i know lol.

I usually just put towels on my kitchen counter, and grab the rock with one hand in the air and slam it with the hammer with the other hand. Two hits on the same spot usually does it for me, but you’ll get a random shape out of it. I’m always good with the shape it comes out.

This is what I use: Mayhew Select 35005 3-by-7-Inch Handguarded Mason Chisel and a small sledge hammer.

if you dont want to shatter it, drill a couple of holes where you want it to break then hammer tappered punches in the holes. as mentioned wear goggles, you only get one pair of eyes.
