Hi - I bought a clownfish pair today. They are in my QT. They were very active in the LFS tank. When I put them in the QT they looked fine. But after 3 hours, the female can't stay straight. It falls to the side. The male does the same but not as frequently as the female. Do I need to worry? A quick response would be greatly appreciated.

Were they seemed to be very active at the LFS because they were stressed?

Thank you for the quick response. 100% newly mixed saltwater. I added Seachem Prime and Stability first. Two hours later I added Seachem Stressguard. Nothing else is in there.

I am thinking if I added more prime than what was required. Would that be the reason?

I can’t tell if there is honestly something wrong or not, but what I will say… is I added a pair of two-banded clowns to my 310 gallon mixed reef, water parameters right where they should be. And one of them acted like it was dying, floating down to the bottom, swimming like nothing I was used to…I was freaking out, thought it was dying. Text my buddy at my LFS and he told me clowns are just weird and can acclimate weird to new tanks and make you worry for no reason. The next day…. Everything was fine and they were swimming like normal just as they were in the LFS.

Just my recent experience. Maybe posting a video of what’s going on along with all your water parameters could help if it’s really truly something to worry about

u didn't use aged water from another tank ? that s could be why . I wouldn't mess with adding any prime. could be a normal too ive had clowns go the bottom of the tank and acclimate then are ok in few hours .

are they breathing hard ? do u have flow running in ur qt. what ur temp. I would still do a water change partial. and cut the light s down or off .
They don't seem to be breathing hard. I have a filter running, good surface agitation. Also, I have an air stone. I have dimmed the lights to the lowest setting. Would it not stress them if I try to do a partial water change?

I will need to turn on the lights to take a video. They are sitting at the bottom corner touching each other, and not moving a lot. Are they sleeping?

No, I didn't use the water from the DT. However, I drip acclimate them. I am following the BRS quarantine procedure (doing regular water changes instead of using a cycled tank). My LFS agreed with this procedure, but now I am thinking maybe I should have gone down the cycled QT route.

Am I worrying too much?

I have one clown that literally looks dead at night laying on top of a powerhead every single night. You might just not be used to clownfish behavior and worrying for nothing. It happens to all of us, happened to me. But without video/pictures or water parameters it’s hard to say. But knowing clownfish, it’s likely just weird new tank clownfish behavior. “My opinion”

Apologies for the video quality; I don't want to turn the lights on. Don't want to stress them out. But you can see the big one falling to the side.

Yes, this is my first clownfish pair.

couldn't see the video but I probably leave them alone sounds like they're getting use to the tank . just resting just keep an eye on your salinity and temp .
