Hey y’all, I just got a Tailspot blenny from my LFS today after I traded some coral frags in for some store credit. It seems to be eating normally, taking the pellets I offered it & grazing on some tank algae. But I have never seen one in person before and would like some opinions on what I should do better. My clownfish doesn’t seem to pester it at all, it just seems curious & even spooked sometimes since the Blenny is larger than it! Below I will attach a video on its activity, I’m not sure if it’s stressed or something. I drip & float acclimated it!

Btw this is a 13.5 gallon mixed reef & the clownfish is the only other fish in there, the clown also claimed only the area around it’s anemone (the other side of the tank from the tailspot’s hiding place)

Respiration seems to be elevated, and the body appears to have possible netting damage or skin issues?

Make sure the water surface is well disrupted by filtration / return pumps. Hopefully it's just excited with the new situation, but keep an eye out on the skin and respiration in case it is not healthy?

Thanks for the help! Yes the return pump is flowing upwards and disturbing the surface, It was previously in a tank with a bunch of other fish so hopefully they didn’t bully it! My clown seems mostly afraid of it.
I did have to take it out of the bag using a net, did I hurt it? :(

I always encourage folks to use wet their hands and lift the fish out of the bag (holding both over the tank) to avoid net injury.

Love this recent photo:

You see, I’m more used to taking care of axolotls & holding them with bare hands is considered a big no no!! (Delicate skin & bones) But thanks for the tip! My LFS puts medications in the fish tanks that would kill my corals & inverts, so I’ve always had to net them out. I’ll use my hands next time!

Once you get used to it, you will lose track of where your nets are unless you use them to mix salt.
