I'm liking it. Unusual olive green color! It should attach soon, if not you can glue it to the rock with super glue gel.

Here's a picture of one of my colonies. I hadn't noticed that it was doing a lot of growing until a couple days ago. Turns out it wasn't spreading towards the front of the tank where I've been watching, it's been creeping down the rock in the back.

Looking good!
Better lighting is on the to do list. It does glow green with the moon lighting. Just not very vivid. I have the Fluval eco lights which I'm sure isn't sufficient for coral growth.

So i think I might dissect this polyp into two pieces for two different rocks in the tank. Ive noticed that the coral seems bigger now and it appears to branch out further.

I sure am tempted to buy another type of frag. I can see how this can become addicting!

What would be another hardy type of coral to obtain? I tested the calcium levels and they are good. How do you know when you need trace elements and other things for your corals to flourish?

Hi Trae,

Have you tried zoanthids yet? They tend to be hardy, most are quite colorful, (some exceedly so!), and many spread rapidly.

Pulsing Xenia, though not especially colorful, are very cool to observe as they open and close their polyps. Some folks have trouble keeping them. Mine has proven easy to keep and after several months hasn't begun multiplying... Yet.

I wouldn't recommend Blue Snowflake Polyps to anyone, as they'll over grow most anything. I do have a couple colonies of them, though, and have found burying bits of a colony with a piece of live rock slows them down some. Lol!

I haven't checked any parameters in my tank in months. I do weekly 20 percent (give or take) water changes, though, which seems to keep things in order. I also have a small HOB refugium with chaeto and various filtration media to assist with the reduction of nitrates, etc.

Oh. Duh. Glasses are on now.

Hard telling with the tentacles extended, but could this be a Plate coral? Does it crawl on the sand?

It has bright white tips on the tentacles. And its attached to a frag square under the sand. I want to say that the guys at the LFS said something like "tongue coral" maybe?

Very normal, put it in some flow to get it to open. BTW, Great choice for a first piece very bullet proof!

Well,... Im very upset today. I can home to find out my 72g bowfront is finished. The silicone started leaking pretty bad. Once i got home from work the tank leaked about 65 gallons onto my hardwood floors. I called my LFS and he was nice enough to take all of our critters so they wouldn't die.
Our family tank was going so well too.
