After losing a few fish to the floor, I finally decided to add the Red Sea DIY Lid. Went with 2 separate pieces to make it easier. Very happy with the result.

Hi everyone,

We just bought a new home (Santa Rosa CA) last fall and decided it was time to upgrade our reef tank. Spent a great deal of time looking at tanks at the LFS and online. Finally settled on the Reefer 750 XXL. One small problem, they were on back order on almost every site I tried. Eventually, I was able to put in my order with FishTanksDirect[.]com. Within a week, John got back to me to let me know why the 750s were so hard to come by.

Turns out, RedSea had to redesign the cabinets and sumps. A little research online showed that the issue with the cabinets led to some tanks leaking. Of course, this made me a bit nervous. However, I decided to move forward. The tank I ordered has the white stand and includes the RS 90 lights.omegle online

Long story short, it took months to get the tank. Everyone at FishTanksDirect was awesome and kept me appraised on what was happening. RedSea had a couple of delays but made it up to those of us waiting with a couple hundred dollars worth of stuff.

Our old tank (110 gallon mixed reef with Kessil LEDs) meanwhile was waiting at my mother in laws house. Had the following housed there:

- Potter’s Angel
- Yellow Eye Kole Tang
- Hawaiian Toby Puffer (wife’s fish)
- Pair of Snowflake Clowns
- 1 very fat Blue Devil Damsel
- 1 bubble coral
- 4 small colonies of zoas
- 3 heads of a hammer Coral
- Refugium with chaeto

Gave up everything else with the move. Fortunately, I only lost a single fish with all the moving. Also, the new home is a mile away from the old tank so transition would be a lot easier.

I bought a hundred pounds of MarcoRock and placed it in a brute trash can with water and circulation. Added bacteria and started dosing pure ammonia for about 2 months. When the tank arrived, I had good readings from my test kits for ammonia and nitrate.

New tank is now up and running. I’ll be posting later with each step of this journey. The good news, I’m very happy and hoping to meet other reef nerds like myself.

I included a few images of the new setup.

You have one of the new reinforced stands. Its really hard balancing the need for patience in this hobby

Yes, I was forced to wait a few months after ordering until they figured out how to reinforce them. It’s been working great so far (knocks on wood).

Patience is very hard. Had my own tendency to rush things bite me in the butt multiple times. Fortunately, there have been lots of great people on here to help me along the way.

So we have some unfortunate news. After introducing the wrasses from QT, I noticed that one had ich. (Smh)... Not sure how since all were treated in Copper. But nonetheless, I had to go fallow again. Good news is, aside from the single wrasse (Blue and Red), we had no losses. I’ll be reintroducing fish in November.

Update. Going fallow for 90 days this time to assure ich is gone. We are currently on day 7. Corals are still growing nicely. All fish are currently in copper in the garage QT (120 gal).

Added a new Ornate Leopard to QT. An LFS in the area had it listed for $39 and I couldn’t resist. Already eating mysis so good start. In a 10 gallon QT until the fallow period is over for the display. Still planning on adding 3 female Meleagris as well.

With all the fish currently in QT, I figured I’d give everyone a tour of my fish room in the garage. And an update on the ornate leopard wrasse:

Trying to QT another trio of Meleagris Leopards. This time in the fish room. I’ve got plenty of live foods but they seem to be enjoying frozen mysis. I moved the ornate to another observation tank. They’ve been in the LFS since 8/25. Going to fatten them up before introducing them to the DT after fallow period.

So day 2 of QT for the Meleagris Leopards. We are currently in a heat wave in CA. It’s close to 105 outside and I’ve been doing everything to keep the garage cooler. It’s at about 80 right now. This is the last day and we go back to 80s outside and 70 in the cave here.

Anyway, the fish are all doing alright. Tanks are at 80 and holding steady.

2/3 Leopards woke up today for food. The last one is still in the sand somewhere. Gave me bad ptsd from previous attempts. But they all ate yesterday so I’ll just tack it up to stress of a new environment.

Update on the fish in QT. Can’t wait to get them all home when fallow period ends! Copper will be over in a couple of days. Will do a large water change and pull copper out.

Day 14 QT for the Leopard Wrasse Trio:

All 4 leopard wrasse (3 Female Meleagris and 1 unk Ornate) are all eating well and dare I say getting small bellies. Been in QT now for 2 weeks with PraziPro completed. All have been eating frozen brine, mysis and live white worms. No issues with behavior.

Here is a video of 1 of the 2 tanks:

Started the process of adding fish back to my tank post fallow period. The 4 Leopards are all in and getting comfortable. I’ll add the Foxface and Sunburst Anthias next week. Then the Fairy Wrasse followed by the Tangs and Clowns.

Also added a few new corals. A Walt Disney Acro, ASD Rainbow Milli, Jason Fox Solar Flare, Tealah Monster Acro, UFO Zoas. Etc.

Here is the update video:
