I have been out of the reef aquarium keeping for about ten years now. I am jumping back in. Lots of changes since my last reef aquarium. At this point in time I am looking at live rock. What I am seeing is “premium live rock” is what we called base rock when I had my first aquarium. My question is, what is the current thinking on live rock? My second question is, is there a reliable supplier for live rock?

A second subject is live sand. Live sand was big when I left the hobby. Now I am seeing more pictures of bare bottom or just a thin layer for looks. What is the current trend on live sand?

Thank you
Bill

Nowadays alot of people are using dry sand and dry rock, less expensive than live and no chance of hitchhikers :)

it's cool getting back in to the hobby and seeing the changes.to me it is a lot easier now with a great site like this.if ya can't find an answer to a question hear i'd be surprised.
crabs m. has a great approach if your not in a hurry (don't be please) get the dry stuff.you can get it now and put it in a tub with a pump and get it started now.
