Hey all I am in the process of buyin a camera but don't know which one to get its between the Canon eos rebel xti with stock 18-55 lens or a Nikon D60 with upgraded 55-200 lens. Anyone with knowledge or experience with ither camera if you could please chimme in and let me know what your choice would be and why .Thanks for all who reply

Canon and Nikon are both great companies that make great products. Two things come to my mind when buying cameras. 1) Does it feel good in your hands. i.e. shape, location of buttons, etc. 2) Make sure you like the lens line up and you are ok with the price range. Lenses make a huge difference in picture quality. I went with Canon. Good luck and have fun.

+1 But I went with Nikon. :xd:

Well a 55-200mm nikon lens is not an upgraded lens. Its just bigger telephoto lens. The lens in this case should not play into which camera you are buying. Both lenses are fairly cheap. My decision was made mainly because all my friends had nikons. When I needed pointers on my specific camera I had someone to answer them. Also if I wanted to try out a lens before purchasing one myself I typically could borrow one from a friend.

+1 Canon, but Nikon is as good. IMO you should see what lenses you want and look for reviews, then decide what camera you want. If $$ is not a problem then either camera will be fine and just buy the professional lenses.

I have the Nikon D90 myself. It's the camera i liked best over the canon. I'm no professional though..

I went with a Panasonic Micro Four Thirds G2.......Amazing little camera, the power of a DSLR and interchangeable lenses, but a much more compact size. It was amazing running around Europe last summer with this camera. It didn't slow me down at all, and my neck and back were truly great full. I also brought my Canon 5D Mark II, but it sat in the hotel room for the bulk of my 3 week trip.

I have a nikon d40. It's a great camera, easy to use, and IMO it takes great pics. If you look in the photo section I have a thread from when I went to jungle island here in Miami. The pics in that thread were taken with my d40. You can find a d40 or d40x pretty cheap and with the left over money you can get a better lens for it.

Thanks for all the replies I did specify 2 specific cameras in original post looked up reviews and both seem to be gettin same reviews just wanted to see what the jury suggested lol I might be leaning more towards the nikon d60

Im a Canon user, and I always will be,I dont like the feel of Nikon,I thought they would be cool and better, but Canon feels better in my hands for sure!

Yea that's one thing I'm not familiar wijth is the feel of ither camera I am gonna have to check em out and see which one is to my likeing forsure anyone have a certain model they find better than another

Either camera you mentioned will perform great.....It's definitely going to be which one feels better in your hands, and how reachable the buttons are, that's usually the deciding factor. You should certainly get both of them in your hands and give them a test run

ah man this decision is harder than i thought but i believe i will check out the Nikon D60 today and take some shots and the Canon xti tomorrow

Haha...maybe theres somthing wrong with them because I held a Nikon camera for a few seconds...
:xd: haha....

I have to agree. I picked up a Nikon about 2 weeks ago in Best Buy and every since I have had a crippling pain in my hands. The only thing that helps the pain is to pick up my Canon. Strange huh?
