So I’m in a pinch, having to take down my current set up, and transfer fish to a holding tank. I have a 20g set up, currently heating up. I will not put any rock work that contains bacteria from my old tank, due to Dino’s and other algae’s. I’m completely nuking my old system. I’m buying some rubble rock that’s “live” to put in my filter maybe I’ll buy a chunk of that “live” rock to put in the holding tank. Also doing to dose with macrobacter start xlm. I’ll have the sponges and that Little Rock to hold bacteria but that’s about it. This tank will only run for a day or two before putting my two clowns and gobies in.
I’m also trying to salvage my cleanup crew, various snails and hermits. I’ve spent a lot on cuc lol. I know it may be hard to keep cuc alive in that holding tank for a week or two .
How often is recommended doing water changes on the holding tank to prevent major ammonia spikes.
Any tips anyone is willing to give whoever had dealt with this let me know!

No experience but there is lots of media to remove ammonia which would be my main concern . I would invest in a filter to hold that . To me it is and investment for the future. I am sure there are lots of opinions out there

If it were my fish I would get a few chunks of the live rock for the holding tank, otherwise you will put your fish through a cycle, A bit of rubble might be ok, but I would be more comfortable with a couple of rocks and avoid an ammonia spike altogether rather than prepare for an ammonia spike, know what I mean
