Are these zoa's growing out of the white or is the white growing over the zoa's?

If you have a pair of tweezers, try grabbing a small piece of the white.

If it’s a sponge, it will pull right off.

Typically I say to just leave it. But in this case it may be choking out your zoas, so remove it.

Now about your algae problem.........

I too think its a sponge. I would leave it be.
I dont see an algae problem.
