painting questions?

so i primed one of my stand doors and just got finish putting first coat of paint on the door. im not sure if its beause i used black paint or if im just not a good painter. it has streaks no matter what i do, i really want a smooth "piano sleek" to it. so if anyone can help me out, please let me know what im doing wrong.

This of course turns into question of what kind of paint you are using ? What kind of primer did you use that sort of things pics would also help

im not sure if i lightly sand it if it would help, or should i find a sprayer.

Well just to poin out one thing you can tell that you drug the brush back into your paint use single long strokes and always blend out the end of your stroke, second did you go back over a spot before it was dry? Remember light multiple coats are better than one heavy coat hmm what else here I'd just say multiple light coats use long brush stroke don't brush back into what you just put on remember take it slow and gentle light amount of paint on the brush at one Time what also might help is to use like a 400-600 grit sand paper on your primer coat before you paint it with the black then use a damp wash cloth to wipe away sanding dust then dry completely then paint with black, hmm can't think of anything else really those are great paints so I think it's defining your technique practice more on scrap wood if you have it around until you get the result you are looking for

yea i have never painted before so this should be fun, good news is if i can't savage the door, then its not hard to build another one.

Yeah man don't worry about it just take it slow, it's always better to start on the back of the door if it's your first time so if it's screwed up it won't be seen as much haha good practice place

I personally like Benjamin Moore products the best. There are additives like flowtrol (if you are using latex) that will help the paint level out better and make it take a little longer to dry which will help with what looks low drag marks from your brush. It looks like you went over the paint once it started to dry but it's tough to see on my phone. If it was hot out while you were painting its probably drying too quick on you. If you can get a sprayer that will be your best bet and give you the best finish, an HVLP would work better than an airless sprayer. Even better would be to use automotive paints and it will look like glass but not many people have access to it. Also if it's not already, tint the primer as dark as you can it will help with coverage. And use a good brush it will make a difference. Hope this helps.

it is warm out side, high 80's. yeah i should have done the inside of the doors first, ohwell as i said i can build a door in 30mins to replace it if it doesn't work out. the 2nd coat did help alot. i wish i knew where to get a sprayer. i know patience is the key, but in my mind i know im rushing because as soon as its painted then i can start plumbing then im ready to add water. i guess i need to take a little more time on this as if i dont' do this right then all the hard work on building will be ruined in my rush to finish. thanks for the info.
