Is PE a must when you are trying out sps? Just bought an acro but not getting much or any PE but it’s growing and encrusting when lights out I don’t see any as well maybe just the tips. What can I do or is it fine at longest it’s growing ?

How long have you had it? If it's growing, colored up, and encrusting I wouldn't worry too much.

It’s frag and tank specific. I’d be more worried if you had PE and then lose it on a particular piece. If you’re seeing growth and color but no PE, that’s not really a concern in my opinion.

Historically, many hobbyists interpret PE as a positive sign of health. Several hobbyists, challenge that suggestion, however.

It’s green, had it for about a week I see it growing and encrusting on the frag plug.

Just a frag wanted to test out if I can have them in my tank. I had some before with a lot of pe extension but it died when I did a tank upgrade. Tank numbers can’t say much I really don’t test anything in tank. Have zoas mushrooms torches chalices monti caps growing like crazy . I was going add more acros but worried cause wasn’t getting PE like the one I had in there before.

Without hard numbers to back up whats going on in your tank, were all just guessing here. Corals, and more specifically acros like stability. Without testing your tank, you have no idea how stable your tank is.

I have plenty of acros without PE, but I have a flame back angel that I attribute that to. Corals can have NO PE for many reasons, and IMO is not an indication of health.

I have a frag that is like yours. Growing, colored up nice, but no PE. While others have great PE. I think it's frag specific and nothing to worry about unless you add more and they all have no PE
