I think my 8 gallon evaporates around a gallon every 10 days.

Got the go ahead from the Wife for another tank, here comes a 54G SPS tank, had to do some haggling and proposition for her. I am now a bee keeper.

Her hive has been ordered. Now Secretly I am all for this, I was able to use it as leverage.

I love fresh local honey, helps with my allergies and will help with the garden we plant each year and she needs the bees wax for the products she makes from items on the farm. So a big win win. I have been wanting a hive for a couple years.
She makes Tallow lotions, lotion dots, chapstick, sunscreen etc and sell at the local farm swaps and farmers markets hopefully online soon.

I will start another build thread.

I am new to it. Get to do a ton of research. I don’t like jumping in like with little knowledge. Luckily my sister in law has been keeping a hive for 2-3 years, so we will have some guidance

Regarding the 54g

I have all this rock, a lot of the larger shelf pieces are flat cut across the bottom.

Instead of sand what do you think about covering most of the bottom glass with rock and build a scape up from there.

Was thinking bare bottom since I want a ton of flow in this little tank but not fond of the bare bottom look.

I have a bunch of ceramic media rings in baggies I am going to throw in the sump of the 210 give them a couple weeks and will transfer to new tank

I have a bunch of ceramic media rings in baggies I am going to throw in the sump of the 210 give them a couple weeks and will transfer to new tank

I, like you, like sand/substrate in tanks unless they are farming tanks. However, I know reefers that have gone live rock only, on the glass. They would ocassionally blast that rock where it sat on the glass.

This will kind of be a farming tank I guess. I want it to look good but also want to be able to grow out corals and be able to transfer into my big tank eventually.

Yes. I would blow off the rocks at every water change.

That is my current WC routine, replace socks, turn off wavemakers, blow off all rocks allowing stuff to go into the socks, do water change, replace sock again with fresh.

I had the thought of gluing GSP or even pulsing xenia to the glass bottom. Just to give the tank more movement and not have glass.

If it was true farming tank I would build a big tiered frag rack out of white egg crate so light could get thru to the bottom fully. since the tank will be going in the house the farming tank look is out. I was thinking i could set it up in the basement and do that, no one would see it but me.

I think I enjoy setting up / planning tanks more then maintaining them.

Nice redirect! Warning on those ceramic rings, some have been known in the past to leach out certain undesirable things into your tank. I think @tbrown also had this experience. I want to say it was aluminum or zinc if memory serves.

So the media she is referring to is the white ceramic stuff. Randy has also mentioned it can release aluminum.

Got my 10k halide bulbs in for the CMH

This is set at 50% power running 190w each currently

Bulbs have only been lit about 20min and will probably still burn in a bit whiter.

Can’t wait for the led bars to get here Saturday. When they show I plan to pull the canopy, cut the openings bigger, ad fans for cooling and the 8x 36” bars!

First is 10k , second is 4100k , the old bulbs
