I purchased a profilux 4 locally from another r2r user recently and decided tonight was the night I'd finally set it up. I performed a factory reset and then switched language back to English, and that's a far as I got.

I had planned to set it up using the GHL app, but the Profilux will not broadcast it's hotspot. I read through the GHL knowledge base articles and a couple posts on here attempting to troubleshoot but I can't figure it out. None of my devices (two phones and a laptop) can find the GHL network and neither of the wifi lights turn on, even after numerous power cycle attempts.

Any ideas? I would hate for it to be defective, both because it wifi problems weren't mentioned in the listing nor when I picked it up, but also because I was looking forward to having a true controller for my tank. 😥

No, there's no networks with GHL or Profilux in the name. I'll see if the control center fixes it tomorrow after work. Thanks.

The WiFi indicators only light up when a WiFi connection is established.
Green (WiFi) when client mode is correctly configured and the ProfiLux is properly connected to your WiFi network.
Yellow (Hotspot) when a device is currently connected to the ProfiLux WiFi hotspot.
The hotspot may have been disabled by the previous client, or the WiFi module firmware may need to be reinstalled. You can find out by using the GHL Control Center software via USB. (https://www.aquariumcomputer.com/knowledge-base/how-to-connect-via-usb/ & https://www.aquariumcomputer.com/document/ghl-control-center-v1-1-5-6/)
If the WiFi firmware needs to be reinstalled (the version displayed is 0), use https://api.myghl.com/wifi-update/ via a USB connection (GHL Control Center closed during the operation) to resolve the issue.
Version 7141 or higher is required for myGHL to function.

I had the same experience as you. Turns out, the factory reset does not actually reset it all the way, and the hotspot won't appear for you to connect to it. I had to download and install their desktop app (and maybe another one), connect to the controller via USB, then run a whole bunch of commands to actually reset it all the way. It was super annoying.

Looks like you can do that via your browser now, though (although you still have to connect to the controller via USB):

There is no need to perform all these steps using the WiFi update tool. As also mentioned in the article, there is now a web tool available at https://api.myghl.com/wifi-update/

It is important to understand that there are two microcontrollers in the ProfiLux, each with its own firmware: the main one and the WiFi module one. This is to ensure that a communication fault will not affect the main operation of the ProfiLux.

So it seems the original USB cable was not included with what I received from the seller. I can't seem to find replacements for sale on GHL's website... it looks like a standard USB-B to USB-A cable?

I have a billion USB cables and could not find this kind anywhere. Finally found one attached to an old scanner and it worked.

I know for a fact I got rid of my old printer cables. I'll just grab one off Amazon.
