Advice on how to maintain an empty quarantine tank. I have a 24g qt fully cycled from a sponge from my sump. I have qt'd a couple of fish successfully and now I am placing them in dt. How do I keep my nitrifying bacteria alive in qt without any fish? Will the bacteria just survive or do I have to "feed" the tank with mysis or something. Also, I have a reef octopus hob skimmer on it- should I just turn that off when not in use?

Ghost feeding will keep bacteria alive while the qt is fishless. That's what I do. You can also keep a sponge in your sump so it's ready when you need to qt a fish. Just don't ever put the sponge from the qt back into the dt when you are done. Always start up a new one for future use.

As said above Ghost feeding or small water changes from the tank. Might be best to restart the quarantine between treatment to avoid disease spread and also accumulation of medication...
