Hello everyone. Brand new to this forum. Setting up my first reef tank...75 gallons. I still have a long way to go before I add fish, but how do I set up a quarantine tank for new fish? Do I need a whole second saltwater setup?? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

Yup, you need another salt water setup, but this one is much cheaper and easier. I recommend setting up a QT as a hospital tank. Since you are just starting and probably won't be getting larger fish at first, a 10g tank will work just fine. Petco has their $1/gallon sale right now on that size tank. Then you need an oversized HOB filter, heater, and a small air pump. If you treat with copper you will need a seachem ammonia alert badge. PVC elbows from Home Depot work great to provide shelter.

I set mine up really simple for fish for my 55g DT. Cost about $50 total

10gal QT:
• 10gal tank
• HOB filter
• Powerhead
• Some PCV pieces for hiding
• Seachem ammonia badge

Paremeters will be kept in check with frequent water changes instead of live rock/bacteria.
You still can still add a sponge do your DT for a month to seed with good bacteria, or use a product like bio-spira

A lot of medication will mess with the nitrifying bacteria, but having them in there prior to any of that is still a good idea.
