I have a 34 gal rimless tank I'm starting to cycle but I keep having the sand move around making a bare spot. I know it's has to do with the powerhead but I don't know where to put the powerhead at to keep this from happening?

Put up a pic, maybe we can help.
Hey and welcome to R2R!

Powerheads in my experience start out pretty strong and will even out. you can use a sponge of floss or Plastic canvas to cover them till it breaks in.

That's what wanted to say. Point it upward. You could get a smaller one that does not move as much water too..

ehime 1260 return pump and a rw8 powerhead
RW 8 is too much for that size tank. You can try and salvage it though by using intermittent pulse. Switch to W1, speed 1 light, and turn the dial to about 11 o'clock.

Just try and play with the dial. Between 7 and 12 o'clock are the best settings for wave action.

yup. everything reeferfoxx said.
If you aim it up and back, so its has a lot of water in front of the head it will slow the flow(it working harder to push more water.. also if its pushing against the return flow it will create turbulence(and thats really good) and it will slow the flow from the PH even further.

itll take some trial and error. And once you set it, ler it run for a while too.
IME sometimes I look over at the 55 and stuff has stopped waving. Then 15 min later it starts again.
Its a pretty fluid process.

This is the settings I have it at now
If it works for you and isn't throwing sand everywhere, go for it. Otherwise, you'll have to wait for coral to determine correct flow.
