I thought I remember seeing someone get in TBS rock and place each rock in bucket of super high salinity water. The critters would exit the rocks quickly and they would snatch them out to be put in a different tank or the sump

I don’t have any plans to qt fish. I’ll either buy tank raised or already qt’d fish like Dr Reef. I expect others can do a better job than I could.

Randy probably don't know this but we go back more than couple of decades back on a reef forum that is not so popular anymore. I had a different screen name there.

I don’t blame you. The varieties of macro algae’s I received on my TBS premium rock is amazing. Tons of sponges and other life as well.

Do as I do…give your wife a pair of tongs/long tweezers and have her go to town trying to catch the bad crabs. It will buy you an hour or two of peace and quite :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:

IYKYK - I’ve killed at least 20 Gorillas. I caught two stones. I thought I did good when I went through the rock before it went into the display. I have a pest tank that has about 10 gorilla and many other things I pulled. I just found. Green mantis. It’s been hiding for 5 months, lol.

Thanks folks. If I do run into hitchhiking crabs, I will surely need help sorting friend from foe. I have never needed to sort crabs. :)

Yesterday I tried Ozone after months, and I have no coral issues so far. I set the generator to the lowest setting and the ORP only increased by 30mV.

Well, it was only set at 60% flow (215 gph actual flow), but last night I told my wife:

" You may not have heard the tank sounds over the TV today, but the tank has been running all day. If you come down in the early AM and hear it, it's not a problem. Expect to hear a little gurgling".

"Oh, I hadn't heard anything today."

No substantial reason. It may actually be nearly identical, just different units of measure. The claimed accuracy specs on the 736 are a tad better, and the upper limit a bit lower (0.6 vs 0.9 ppm) but that accuracy difference might be a rounding issue.

736: Accuracy @ 25°C (77°F) ±5 ppb ±5% of reading (= 0.015 ppm phosphate)
774: Accuracy @ 25°C (77°F) ±0.02 ppm ±5% of reading

On Ozone - my peninsula is 96x36. I’ve got a reactor, carbon chamber and dryer. It turns on 5 minutes an hour, every hour. My Poseidon is set to 3.5. I can’t tell the difference down my long view of ozone vs a green/white foam pad on my bubble trap and some reef snow. I never smell it, but maybe it cuts down on coral chemical warfare? I just took it off line to service the entire thing, the reactor has never been cleaned in 1.5 years of use between a couple systems. Maybe I should do 15 minutes an hour. No coral issues either but I wonder if I/we should be banging on it harder.

It is a rounding issue, but the phosphate ULR is better. It measures higher (which you will probably need for PO4 experiments), and the timer on the PO4 checker is much longer.

It updated the issue of the Phosphorus checker by extending the auto shutoff time. If you use the same vial for C1 and C2, the checker will often shut down before inserting the vial back in because you will need to shake the vial for 2 minutes.

It’s a race against the clock with the Phosphorus. The checker’s accuracy is identical, and the reagents between the checkers are interchangeable (identical chemicals and amounts with different labeling on the outside.)

The difference between 0.01 and 0.015ppm is insignificant. It’s not like you plan to keep ULN, anyway.

TL;DR: the phosphorus checker uses different conversions than the standard (more work), shorter shutoff time, lower upperlimit, with a barely better accuracy (which is likely just due to rounding.)

Yeah, that timeout deal sucks. A recall option would have been better. That’s a sure fire way to increase sales on reagents though. I bet 1 in 5 times I get distracted.
