So being from Australia, I know the need not to waste water, and I had a random idea that came to me last night and wanted to see if people do it or can be done.

I have a 500-litre system, and when I do a water change, I normally have the hose down the drain and off to where ever it goes, but could I store it and then push it through a RODI system to reuse?

Thoughts?

I would think your RODI system's filters and membrane would be depleted heavily from fish waste/etc

No, way too much salt in it to purify by RO/di. It has 35,000 ppm tds in it. Even if you removed 99% of it, that’s like sending 350 ppm tds water straight to the di.

You could try to set up some sort of recycle system I would think. Like take all the old tank water and dump it into a large container with lights/chaeto and then re-use when nutrients have been sucked up? lol
Guess you would have to decide how much it really means to you :grinning-face-with-sweat:

I really like the idea for use for the toilet though, we do something similar in Aus with washing machine water in the toilet.
