Recently I took down my aquarium because my filter leaked and soaked the carpet, so we will be getting new carpet. So my stand was 36" tall I cut 8" off the bottom and added 2- 3/4" pieces of plywood. I'm attaching 4" heavy duty castors. Then I put a 2×6 skirt around base to hide castors. Then on the inside of my stand I'm going to line it with a rubber mat to create a tub to catch any water that might leak in the future. I also built a chute on the back of stand in case my hob skimmer would happen to leak. The castors are rated for 330 lbs each, its a 50 gallon tank. I had a stand years ago that I put castors on figured I will try it again. It worked good before to move it. Has anyone else done it?

Sounds like a good idea but I am not sure to be honest.

My total weight should only be about 650 lbs, when I used castors before they were no where near as heavy duty as these .I don't remember if it was on my 29 gallon or 40 that I had before. The liner is what you get at hardware for a shower installation.

I thought about doing the same on my stand, in the end I decided against it. Load Ratings aside, if some faulty hardware in the Castor failed that'd for sure be the end of your tank.

That's why I have a 2×6 skirt around base. So there is just enough clearance to roll it.
