are there any other effective treatment..just talked to my SIL whose father is a vet and she works in the clinic..she says they do not make interceptor anymore..what about dipping in an aquarium treatment like CORAL RX or Seachem?..

No they do not make Interceptor any longer but they do make Interceptor Spectrum that has the same active ingredient, just a different manufacturer I believe. None of the coral dips will effectively remove or kill Red Bugs. Some individuals are having success with the insecticide Bayer.

Sadly a single dip is almost useless against them. Bayer, interceptor revive none of them kill the eggs.

I had them around 4 years ago, but after 3 interceptor treatment they went byebye.
Easiest pest to get rid of.

Years ago. Nothing goes in my tank now without a picture which I zoom in, makes it easy to se them and a good Bayer dip. Easy to get rid of if you can find some interceptor. Sad day for my shrimp but....

Just discovered red bugs on some of my frags. Never noticed or really looked for them during the past year of having acro frags. They only appear, from what I can see, on two of the twelve. How do these bugs harm the coral? I only observe lack of PE. Any additional info would be appreciated.

Per Eric Borneman, red bugs are direct developers - meaning they don't go through an egg and larval stage. No eggs to worry about. The technical name for this type of reproduction is Parthenogenesis. Reference: Red bug treatment info

Never had them. I've dipped 75% of corals with Revive and I don't QT. The other 25% I was just lazy. (and lucky I guess.) I have even got frags from people in the area that later developed a red bug infestation. None for me. Tanks is predominately SPS most of which are acros.

Spot treatments never work in my experience, and I've tried. 2 or 3 interceptor treatments at approximately 1 week intervals does the trick. I have irradiated them at least 5 times in different tanks over the past 10 years. My guess is that you will notice them in a month or two since you only spot treated specific corals. Red Bugs have favorite hosts for sure. Bonsai's, plana's, Tri colors, smooth skin deep water corals are all magnets for these little *******s. I have been "red bug free" for 8 months now. I dip every new addition in RPS All-out and so far I have not re-introduced them. The next big Frag swap that I'm planning to attend will be in February. I will dip and quarantine all of my new additions.

I just did a treatment of Interceptor Spectrum in my Biocube 29g and almost instantly the redbugs and other critters started dying. One plus to this version is it took care of a Polyclad Flatworm issue I never knew I had!! Crazy how much this actually does affect. I looks like I will loose all my pods, some bristle worms appeared to die off, and some feather worms died. It appears everything else wasn't affected by it though. I will be doing a second treatment next weekend just as a precautionary step.

I have had them in both my biocube and my old 165g and they have never really caused a serious issue but I just want to have this new setup free and clear of anything pest like this as long as possible. I will also be treating for red bugs and those ugly red planaria worms in my 100g stock tank I have all my coral and fish temporarily while my 120g is cycling. I will try to prevent this infestation hopefully from ever being a problem in the new tank too, fingers crossed.
