I’m about to acquire a Red Sea 625 G2. I’m well aware of the Red Sea reputation, but had a thought. From what I can tell the Red Sea issues seem more common on the larger rimless tanks and are attributed to silicon seem failure.

What if you added a euro race to the top. Think that would add enough safety or is the silicon issues going to exist no matter what?

Adding a eurobrace can help stiffen the tank a bit, but it doesn’t really address the core issue if there’s a problem with the silicone seams.

Personally I wouldn’t do it.. if you wanted to take the entire tank apart and reseal it correctly then sure. But that would be the only way I’d trust it or do it.

Thanks for the input. There’s was really no chance I’d ever set it up was just curious as a thought experiment. Does the silicon failure issue reduce or eliminate with the presence of a eurobrace?

My LFS just had a seam failure a few weeks ago. It WAS a beautiful tank. He lost a lot of nice colonies, not to mention the huge mess it caused.

Honestly, I wouldn't even take one if it was free, especially second hand. I'm back in the hobby a few years now from a 13 year hiatus. Seeing a nice Red Sea rimless tank in a LFS is what got me scratching the itch to get back in. Luckily I did a lot of research. I just couldn't support/buy from a company with such a poor reputation.

I ended up going with an Innovative Marine 200 EXT Peninsula (it's Eurobraced). I couldn't find much of any info on seam failures with them. Until literally the very next day after the thing is delivered to my garage, a guy on YouTube named Tritonpower posted a seam fail on a 200 EXT (not a peninsula, but basically the same tank). He bought the IM tank as a replacement for a Red Sea seam fail. The IM replacement came and it failed too!! So now I'm wondering if this guy knows how to properly install a tank? Three fails in a row, imagine that luck! He ended up purchasing a custom 230g Glasscages & no seam fail yet on that.

So far, so good with my IM. Only one regret, same as everyone else, I wish I went bigger.

Redsea made 2 changes to the G3 to resolve this. They added euro bracing and a metal lip that support the bottom of the front panel. My g2 started to show seem failure right at 3 years. I feel much better about the longevity of this G3.

I had two Red Sea 250 that I had to drain due to failed seams, so it is not exclusive to large tanks. Original tank lasted 2.5 years, I got a replacement which also lasted 2.5 years.

I would not get a Red Sea tank even if they were giving them away for free
