Red Sea failure question

Looking at adding a tank to the collection. Looking at a used red sea 200xl. I've seen a lot of stuff about red Sea failures and I'm wondering if it's all of them or certain models ?

I would not buy a used redsea tank. I doubt I would buy a new one. I have a Gen 2 xl 300 I'm keeping an eye on. I just broke down my gen1 reefer 170 because I have a seam failing. Tank ran for six years but I've had cheaper tanks last much longer. IMO it's crappy silicone that doesn't hold up. I say this because of how it's failing. This isn't scraper damage either.

Until we're five years in the future, nobody today can say any edition of red sea is safe. The company burned its bridges to customer trust, they deserve this doubt. Do not buy

A lot of people make promises that the new reinforced g2s are safe, maybe they own a delorean time machine to know and relay such confidence

Pre g2? 100% guaranteed to fail

If Red Sea's response had been vocal and loud, apologizing for their failure, offering replacement tanks for anyone who bought the defective tanks without proof that the seam was going to fail, then maybe I could give them the benefit of the doubt.

AFAIK, they never publicly acknowledged their failure. How do we know they don't know of a flaw in the current design and are sticking to their MO of not saying anything until a tank fails?

My 200XL failed on me but I was a Gen 1. The way that Red Sea's Customer Service treated me when I contacted them was disgusting and would never give them any more of my money.

the g2s really might be safe agreed. its not like I could go build a tank where the seals w hold 10 years, but my gosh they're dodging folks left and right in the real world, behaviorally they make me untrusting because they don't help their buyer friends, when need arose.

you should see my collection from those 60 days past warranty
crickets, no help unless they pay etc.

G2 is safer, but not safe

Red Sea tanks now come with a 5 year warranty, which is longer than a lot of industry warranties

It won’t do anything to repair trust in folks who’ve had failing tanks because failing tank is catastrophic- but it does show that they seem to have confidence in their tanks

G2’s are failing already according to local custom builders who are repairing them

Can you post some links? Every time someone talks about a G2 it's usually always a G1 V3. I've only seen a couple actual G2's and those were non common leaks (like shipping damage etc). It's also pretty suspect a local builder would be repairing them if they're still under warranty. The G2 has only been out for just over 2 years now.

Red Sea definitely has issues with the G1 which is costing them a lot of money with all the replacements they have to hand out, but let's not talk about G2s in the same light from mere hear say. Yes, Red Sea deserves a bad rap, but let's at least be accurate with the bad reputation they deserve.

That's a replacement tank fail. Meaning the one they just sent wasn't checked, and even after brand new packing the seams would fail.

Red sea is putting out the most concerning aquariums of anyone I've seen in my entire time in the hobby, there's no diminishing them.
Now is the time to doubt, we don't know if g2s hold for five years, until actually five years elapsed
