I have 5 lyretail anthias that have currently been in QT for 3 days. All fish seem to be doing well and are active and feeding. Initially had 6, but one of them looked like it was struggling a bit even at the LFS. They said they would throw him in for free so I said what the hey. Fish was dead by the next day. All other fish seem healthy. Today I noticed a small red sore on one of the fish. So far seems to be only on this one fish. Otherwise it is behaving normally and shows no signs of stress. The fish that died did not have any noticeable lesions on it. Any idea what this is? Could it be an injury (they have been nipping at each other a bit), or some parasitic/bacterial infection? Best pictures I could get. These guys move fast.

Looks like an bacteria infection. It doesn't effect her much now but it will soon. You will want to considering using antibiotic like furan2 and kanaplex.

Thanks, I'll try to go to the LFS later today to see if they have any of those antibiotics.

+1 I would dose antibiotics ASAP: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/antibiotics.283711/

Combining Kanaplex + Furan-2 + Metroplex would be your best bet.

In addition to the antibiotics listed in that thread, Seachem makes two others which might help: Neoplex or Sulfaplex

Thank you Humblefish.

Will definitely be heading over to the LFS later today to pick up some abx. Hopefully they will have what you have listed.

LFS only had Furan 2. Dosed that tonight. Will have Kanaplex and Metroplex via 2 day shipping by Thursday. I noticed the anthias occasionally flashing up against the PVC pipes. Is this a sign of ich? All fish still seem to be doing fine otherwise. Should I finish the course of antibiotics and then start copper dosing for presumed ich? Thanks.

Could also be velvet or possibly flukes. Is he targeting the gill area when he scratches?

Hard to say for sure but it does seem like he is scratching in that general vicinity. Also only seems to do it on the side that has the sore.

I would give one of the fish that is scratching a FW dip to check for flukes: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/freshwater-dip.248898/

There is also a video showing flukes here: https://www.reef2reef.com/ams/video-how-to-do-a-freshwater-dip.214/

If flukes show, treat with Prazipro. If no flukes, treat with copper.
I need to pick up an extra heater and air pump to do the FW dip. Will get those things today. Noticed one of the anthias with a ragged looking tail fin. This is a different fish from the one that has a sore. Seems less active and didn't want to eat today. Is this fin rot or possibly from fighting? Tank is already being treated with Furan 2 and will start Kanaplex and Metroplex today. Man am I glad these fish are in QT as this is actually my first foray into quarantining after listening to previous advice that I didn't need to. Better angle is probably of the fish swimming away in the background. Thanks.

@lesbrers How many male & female anthias are in this QT? When I add anthias, I like to buy all females and let the dominant one morph into a male. That seems to mitigate aggression.

It does look like you've got a bacterial infection spreading in there, but I'm wondering if fish fighting was the precursor.

All 5 fish are females. They do seem to bicker quite a bit, but it seems spread out so not one single fish is the target. Hopefully the triple antibiotic regimen will take care of the bacterial infection. I have been doing multiple feedings (at least 3) per day to try to diffuse the aggression.
