I live in Venice Florida. This year we are being hit extremely hard with RED TIDE. It happens around the world and it’s very sad. Ours is karenia brevis. It’s a HAB (harmful algal bloom). It’s killing everything in our area, small fish to turtles, dolphins, manatee, even a whale shark. It’s a natural phenomenon but Florida is draining the okeechobee lake that is polluted from farming into the gulf where this HAB is. Essentially it’s feeding this bloom and killing everything. I’ll try to link as much as I can, but please call upon your congressman to change what we are doing to our environment. PS... if you work for or know someone that works for the Army Corps of Engineering I’d love to chat with you, I’m a pilot with a large airline I can either fly to you or better yet, I’ll bring you here and we can chat about it on our beach coughing and wheezing and looking at the death of our environment.

Stop draining Okeechobee, make BIG SUGAR pay to play, and the rest of the farmers! This is prevetable on this scale. Our government is failing this planet!

I don’t know how to get this to every person subscribed, if someone does please let me know or you can do it, thanks for your time.

These are bad times for our Florida waters. I'm in Jacksonville in the North East part of the state They just found toxic algae in the St John's river & a joining Drs Lake .
There is some agriculture & livestock But I believe this is from all the urban homes in the area. It's blown up in neighborhoods in the last 25 years .

I am having the same problem in Texas just not that bad. We are in the biggest dead zone in the world because of the Mississippi River . I have been doing small-scale restoration projects(seagrass, macro, and the new project for this year is to start breeding oysters)to help out, but the whole ecosystem needs to be fixed. One thing that has really peaked my interest is the micro-nano bubble application. I really think this will help out, but I am a ways out on actually putting it to use. It gives me something to look forward to it. I will be sticking around on this thread to see if I can pick up any tips and tricks to use here and thanks for your concern!!!

I'm in Cape Coral between Ft Myers and Sanibel Island and the red tide is really bad here. Sanibel is where the whale shark washed up. And more directly related to the Lake Okeechobee fresh water release is the blue-green algae that is now growing out of control in the canals (and we have a LOT of canals in Cape Coral. It's so thick it looks like you could walk on it and it sticks like a sewer! Just what you want out behind your $250,000 to $2,000,000 house!

We had a fish kill in in NE Florida . It was in a shallow brackish lake named Guana lake. The FWC thinks it was extreme high temps & oxygen depletion. These are precursors to Red tide right?

Not sure about that, I think Red Tide dies in fresh water, however brackish I’m not sure of. Good luck to you all!

Unfortunately with all the de regulation that has happened in regards to farming, septic systems and sugar cane farm run off, this is what happens. Lake Okeechobee and the Everglades are suffering from these practices. It all starts at the head waters of the Everglades near Orlando. Years of changing the Kissimmee river and how water flows through man made canals has made impacts as well.
Now it makes it to the coasts and is killing sea life. Sad.
