Holy cow, time for a super long overdue update!

Hope you have all had a phenomenal summer, what with the time for kids needing to return to school and leaves getting their chlorophyl sucked back out of them right around the corner 'n all. I have been very (read that "slightly") busy this summer. Some trips to the mountain, work trips out of state, golfing with the kids, foam parties, work deadlines, starting a company, having a baby (He is currently 3 days overdue, hopefully this weekend!!!), and all the accoutrements have kept me rather occupied lately.

Through it all, the tank has been doing surprisingly well, including through some super low alk. @Nor'easter Reefer and I were chatting the other day about being slackers about testing our ALK, which thankfully caused me to feel the need to check mine. Good thing too, it was at 4.8.... AFR tank had run dry on me and i think it is time to add some more kalk to the reactor. Any who, it is doing much better, I mixed up 3 more liters of AFR, dosed it up 1 dkh/day for a few days (with BRS soda ash) and did a 15 gallon water change this afternoon. The sticks and other corals never even batted an eye through the whole of it. Still colored up nice and looking good.

Since its FTS Friday, here is an FTS from just now: (I know, the glass needs some love too)

That awesome little nuclear green alvie slowly withered away on me and is unfortunately no more, but other than that it has been all growth and good stuff. I still need to get rid of those nems in the ack box and do something with the rest of those frags so i can get rid of that other rack. I need more space or lower expectations. I'm really hoping to win that CADE frag tank come September from this year's partner member birthday bash prizes :) fingers crossed, that would be awesome, to get a frag tank going!

All the contest frags are all still growing really well too (except brain candy. it hates me. but that one just ended, so i guess we are good now)

My daughter's nem tank has had some fun stuff too, her (my old) radion quit finally, that was fun. I replaced that with a nicrew. So far, it has been a pretty decent light, wish it had a built in timer though. I did a water change on her tank today too while i was at it. She has, since this picture has been taken (an hour ago, i took it to tease her i was going to post it dirty LOL), cleaned the glass. I would get a fresh one, but she has it all stirred up and the water looks milky right now. Her fish are still doing awesome, the 2 clowns and a purple firefish. The clowns have not laid another egg clutch yet though and Alice was sad that none of the babies made it.

Sounds like you had a great summer with the family and didn’t even crash the tank. That’s a great win in my book. Your corals look really good too. Can’t believe your alk was that low. 4.8, OUCH!

Thanks dude! That is quite the spread, we somehow without trying spaced ours 4 years apart, my daughter is 8, my son is 4.

The best thing about that alk thing was as soon as you messaged me back saying your alk was low, I was midway through shutting down the house to go to bed and realized "oh. My hydros was messaging me something earlier..." and I ran down to see my AFR dosing container was bone dry

The best thing about that alk thing was as soon as you messaged me back saying your alk was low, I was midway through shutting down the house to go to bed and realized "oh. My hydros was messaging me something earlier..." and I ran down to see my AFR dosing container was bone dry

I have them set up that way and works really well. You can tell it how many days in advance you want the notifications.

I have it set for 3 days. 5 days gives me too much time to procrastinate.

Also, went back to gallon jugs and have a couple for each additive. So I mix the spare jug with the 3 days left and swap it out once ready. Makes it real simple.

That is a good idea to have extra mixed up and on hand. I am going to implement that too.
