Good Afternoon all,

My RedSea 425xl is starting to bubble on the seams. Tank is 3.5yrs old, Red Sea basically said to pound sand with a miniscule discount on a new tank.

Long story short I ordered a waterbox marine x to replace it, but in thr meantime any tricks or ideas to help keep this thing from splitting while I wait for the new tank. I was thinking of running some paddedratchet straps all the way around top and bottom with a little pressure to help take some weight off the glass.

Thanks in advance for any ideas

50 gal+ feed trough. Put it in your garage, put your lights on it, put your heater in it, put your powerheads in it, move all rock and fish into it until your replacement comes.

I mean, sure straps are great and all, but do you really trust them? I sure wouldn't sleep well knowing that's what's preventing massive uninsured flooding damage.

Wood with ratchet straps (for even pressure) and look into picking up a stock tank to throw everything into.
Yea the wood piece is a great idea, I have a 30aio waterbox and two 40gal breeders at the ready as well as 6 5gal buckets. Appreciate it!

Stock tank would be easiest especially if you have to move the old tank before setting the new one. I'm not surprised by RSs refusal to assist. I have a 300 still under warranty currently failing that they refuse to replace. They told me to monitor the seams and check back if it gets all the way past the seam protector amd onto the actual seam. Feels like they just want to wait and hope the warranty has expired before it actually starts leaking.

For anyone considering a RS tank.

Haha yep! That is what mine looks like on the verticals with one bubble. They however recommended to stop using the tank immediately.

They would never tell me that because it would mean they owe me a tank lol. I'm not at all surprised and wouldn't set up a new tank RS tank anyway. I've seen warranty replacement tanks fail and don't want to go down that road. I bought my waterbox 330.7 when i was looking for a larger tank and have been happy with it.

AFAIK basically any Red Sea g2 included is subject to burst... g3's are too new to tell yet other than one individual that states their seam separated but never posted pictures/proof.

If you bought it new I would start keeping an eye on the seams at the 2 year mark. Used.... I would find a replacement ha!

Mine shown above failing is a G2. My first failure was a G1 170

EDIT: if they haven't changed the silicone I expect we'll see failures on the G3s. The addition of Euro bracing won't correct the problem of silicone that gets destroyed by algae any more than adding a center support to the stands did 🤣

I'm surprised Red Sea is not out of business yet. Nobody should buy their tanks. These tanks are notoriously the worst build quality on the market. Unfortunately, your story isn't uncommon. I agree with the above posts about moving everything into a stock tank earlier than later. Grab one of the big rubbermaid tubs from tractor supply or other farm equipment store. I like the idea of bracing with wood and ratchet straps in the meantime just to immediately lower the outward pressure put on the glass and seams.

I think the right question to ask is how risk tolerant are you... how big a problem would 108 gallons of water on your floor be.
I mean the floor is not wood so I don’t think it would be super bad however definitely will be annoying to clean up I think the main problem is the amount of livestock I will loose

Whatever you do, make sure it's semi permanent. WB rarely meets their advertised estimated delivery dates. Seems the larger the Tank the longer you wait.
