I just purchased the reefbrite fixture and a luxcore ballast. Of course they just don’t plug in together so has anyone cut the cord off the fixture or what did you do to get it to work? I don’t want to buy another ballast so hoping someone has some insight.

Thank you

You will have to cut the cord. Mine had to modified too.

Yes, someone was complaining in another thread and we were talking about compatibility issues with other then ReefBrite connected to their halide system. Besides, Mr. Tullio said once that he highly discourage doing something like that...

My lumen bright fixture did not come with a plug and I had to wire the ballast plug to the fixture. If I manufactured fixture and ballast I would do the same. It forces people to void the warranty or forces them to buy their ballasts. Reefbrite should just make a male to male plug and sell it so don’t have to cut the plug or send the fixture to them with a plug to wire it for my ballast. Electricians splice cable higher than a 250w fixture all the time with out any issues, believe me I. If spliced properly you should not have any issue.

I do that too. I have done back in the day for PFO systems and so on. I still have them. Problem with ReefBrite seems weird though, by some of the people that have complaints about them. There are some problems with flickering too... I'm not trying to put ReefBright down at all. I just wan to let people know. I returned mine after hearing some of the complaints and after knowing the deal with their ballasts running low wattage with much lower than recommended for Radiums. Try to search some of the threads...
Good luck.

What is the difference between the 250w and 400w fixture? I have 250 and will be making the switch to 400 soon.

They said you can use either wattage with their fixtures when I asked in the past when I was buying...
BRS listed them separately back then. I don't know why!

I bought the Reefbrite extension cables and spliced on the male connecter required for my bluewave M80 ballasts. This way you won’t void the warranty cutting the cords on the actual fixture.

There you go!
There is also an adapter...
I'm not sure where to buy that adapter though.

I pose a different question altogether... how are you mounting your RB Hybrids?
If I pull the trigger I will mount three fixtures over a 180. Not sure about the industrial look of the fixtures until I figure out how to astestecially mount them so they pass the wife’s “sniff test”.

I used square bar from Home Depot. I’ve got a 180 as well. It took a while to clean up all the wires but I think it looks good, lots of zip ties.

I’ll join.
I’ve been running the Reef. Brite for about 3+ years. At one point I had SPS growing out of the water.
I’m now doing Anemone and LPS.
