I’m very happy with the shine so far. Transitioning from KZ. I’m 3 months in I believe.

How are the results with this mehtode compared to kz? Do still use some kz products aminos...?

I'm a bit loosen with the different methods here trace elements are very important,but when I see the stunning growth and colors of the guys that use the dsr methods which use as only trace Potassium, Sulfate, Boron, Iodine and Manganese and no water change, I'm asking how this can work and if we really needs the other traces elements??

Im in the same boat as I use the DSR EZ trace elements in all my systems from day one and I think my colors are respectable.
I like to keep my systems as simple as possible but thats just me.
Check my build for colors.

I haven’t seen anybody's colors more vivid than those I see with shine. If somebody can post a legit daylight pic that beats this…please do. Note this black frag rack is black and not completely UV’ed or Royal’ed out. Also note the white frag plugs.

Yea those colors are pretty normal from many of the tanks I have seen.

If you put some of those corals in my tank they would look the same as I have similar colors but on different corals. To say ones better than the next is trivial at best.

Bottom line the shine system works and so do many others.

Many of the people running similar colored systems dont broadcast their tanks here or anywhere for that matter.

Pick the system you want and go for it is what I say.

And yes Glenn Fongs EZ systems are one of them and they speak for themselves.

I do look forward to watching your system develope with the shine system as I will be following it.

I’m having even greater success with the shine. I tried adding in acropower for a few months. No difference. Took it offline. There are many ways to have a successful reef tank. For me the moonshine method has been the best.

I’ve seen your build thread. The corals are great, your tank is nice, and the colors are good, but I think Andre has you beat bro. It’s ok though, because he has me beat too. Nothing personal. To say the daylight pic above is average makes me chuckle inside. His tank is far from average and everybody knows it which is why every day I see more and more people coming into the group and starting the Shine. I’ll be dead honest with you too. I have not see even one person that doesn’t like his program. People that come in are consistently saying the same thing…”Corals are looking better everyday.” Or…”My growth has been exploding since I’ve started the program.” Or…”My corals have never looked better.” The only reason why I promote his program is because I only promote things I believe in that I’ve used personally on my own reef. Anything that makes a system this stable and helps achieve this kind of success is something that I can’t ignore. When I see my microbiome come into balance and the corals looking so healthy it puts a smile on my face.



Also, let me be clear…despite what some may think…I don’t get a dime from Andre. He doesn’t sponsor my YouTube channel or send me any money at all. Just want to throw that out there. If you don’t believe me, go look at ReefDudes channel. You’ll see Andre’s logo, because he does sponsor his channel. Check out this video below and tell me he’s not passionate. ;)


BTW…when I met Andre 10 years ago, the dude was playing with trace elements and color which is why I trust his program. He’s been jacking with this stuff for a long time and he’s a freak about sourcing quality product’s that don’t introduce any pollutants. He’s all about purity.

IMO, that's a very interesting question from a knowledge standpoint.

What actually is important and what is not.

Just following a method (any method) that does lots of things may lead to a great tank (maybe even the single best reef tank known to man), but it doesn't lead to understanding whether each and every component of that method is optimal or needed or useful for a given reef tank.

Folks should also allow that what levels of, say, element X are optimal for one organism may be sub-optimal for another.

I do look forward to following your build. This video is exactly what the colors in my tank look like.
I think sometimes we all get stuck in our method and overlook others.
I am with Randys post as I would like to know which element is pulling the colors as opposed to just adding everything you can.
This is why I use the EZ product.
If I knew which element pulled better colors I would try it but not all of them at once.
It would be interesting to implement shine products one at a time and run them for a couple months to see.

Good question. From personal experience and from what I see on the FB group (from my limited time scanning through) I would say barium, molybdenum, strontium, flouride and sometimes potassium seem to be part of the monthly corrections. I can't speak for others, but these elements are pretty much the ones I dose on a monthly basis. There are a few others as well, but their corrections seem to be lower or not every month. I'll actually post this question with the group and see what everyone has to say. It would be very interesting to see what everyone is dosing.

The question is whether the actual concentration of barium matters at all. I'm personally quite skeptical of that one since barium has no known biological role in any organism.

I know one common issue with low barium among people in the group, is STN/RTN. I'm not saying it caused the event, but reading through these posts about RTN, barium was one of the "low" elements during an RTN/STN event. I think we would have to do long term experiments with individual elements and see what would happen? Myself, I like the idea of maintaining chemistry with this method and it simply works.

I doubt barium is high enough to notice the effect that way. Even when very high (say, 1 ppm), it would be a thousand times lower in concentration that the calcium.

I did my first ICP test at 2.5 years and barium was 25 ug/l range was 0-10.
All other elements were inline.
Interesting thing is I have never dosed it. I do 12g's a month WC in my 120 with IO purple.
Just thought I would throw that out their.
