Thanks Hans. Unfortunately I don’t know the iodine source. KZ keeps their products proprietary. I’ll reach out to KZ, but im not expecting much insight from them. I’ll see what I can find out. I don’t think it’s iodide since I can actually smell the iodine in the KZ bottle.
If it is a brown solution it contains most likely elementary iodine which may also have an effect on corals. So maybe it is not the copper or the copper alone but an synergistic effect.

On a brown solution with iodine, I2 can alter the form and bioavailability of many trace elements. I’d be worried about an effect from that rather than the copper, though I cannot prove it wasn’t copper related.

How do you know what caused the effect?

Well, that was the only anomaly in my ICP tests for the previous several months. I didnt think much of it since on this particular ICP test (oceamo), because it isn’t highlighted elevated until you get above 2 ug/l. I didn’t notice the climbing trend. I saw a general decline in all tenuis, and overall less polyps extension through the reefs, as well as lighter colors, and random rtn here and there (I generally don’t lose much). This is in 4 separate reefs plumbed into 2 separate systems (both getting dosed daily KZ flatworm stop).
I slammed the systems with milbemycin multiple times thinking it could be white bugs but saw no of difference. After consulting with moonshine owner, he confirmed that this product does indeed contain copper, and varied amounts from bottle to bottle. I’ve also spoke to many KZ flatworms stop users, who tend to be old-school stick heads like myself. Many of them are having the same coral paling issue and random losses. They confirmed high copper levels as well using MS-ICP.

Now, could my observations be wrong, of course. But my copper is back down well below .1 and my tenuis are looking great again, not to mention my Goni no longer close up which was another observation. Whether it was the copper or source of iodine or the relation between the 2, it was from the use of that product.

So Flatworm stop is just Lugols with added copper?

No freaking idea but it definitely contains those 2. I heard people say wormwood as well but don’t knows I told Ryan from BRS about the copper and he was surprised. Nice job on the videos btw. Entertaining and informative 👍

Thank you. They’re fun with plenty more coming after the holidays

Ok, thanks for the info. :)

Old thread brought back from the grave... A lot has been discussed about traces so I will only say that maybe I just like giving all of my hard earned money to Chris Wood at Captiv8, but my corals generally seem "happier" after I started dosing individual traces. My goni's seem less temperamental. Growth and coloration of my acros seem better.

I enjoy doing it and it makes me feel better to keep traces near natural sea water levels.

The one thing that I didn't really see addressed about AFR is the reason that I stopped using it. My pH was depressed and AFR is pH neutral. A lot of people don't care about pH, but I it's important to me. So now I dose kalkwasser to match evaporation + soda ash/calcium chloride two part and use Captiv8 minor and traces.
