I tried tuxedo urchins but my mantis shrimp at the time made quick work of them. Now that he’s gone I ended up with a pincushion who surprisingly isn’t keeping up with the algae in my 20 gallon.

Mine has permanent residence on my power head and vacations on the back wall every few weeks.

Had a long spine, two of them. NEVER AGAIN! They both munched on corals, a lot. Once that happened they got the boot.
Same, I bought a flame angel and was given the long spline at about the same time. Started seeing my sps being munched on. Caught and sold the flame angel blaming it just to find the long spline 4 inches up a cali tort just going to town. Never again for the long spline urchin.

i kept a pencil urchin and long spine but both started eating the edges on my monti's, I gave both to my friend with a fowlr and they are fine to date. after my latest tank upgrade i tried to keep a pin cushion and it seemed to not be eating. It rapidly declined and started losing spines. after i saw my gold head floating with his mouth WIDE open (swallowed a spine) i decided not to keep urchins for the foreseeable future.

they are cool though!!! Just wish i had better luck with them.

love urchins, tho their tastes can change on a whim sometimes. Typically when the get too large and/ or there is no longer enough algae in the tank to graze.

I occasionally get long spine in an attempt to control the turf algae in my tank ... they make it a few hours to a couple of months (very rare, usually about a week) before my dick headed humu humu flips them over and has a snack.

What type of urchin is this? Love it. I have a Pink Short Spine but I'm considering a second.

I really want to try an urchin, they're cool but afraid of it moving my frags around. I have a couple GHA and in some spots I can't reach. currently have a mix of snails and pitho/hermit/emerald crab. The pitho/emerald is useless they dont touch any of the bubble algae, I've been manually removing them.

i currently have a red and blue tuxedo and i absolutely love them. they're super hardy and do an awesome job of cleaning!

i will say, ive only had issues with them as far as picking up random single poly zoas and using them as hats, but that just makes them easier to spot in the tank. but i say, if you're considering getting one— do it. lol.

Are there any difference between red and blue tuxedo besides the color?
