This is what I’ve harvested from the ATS, not sure if it’s hair algae, but my tangs love it.

I’ve managed to ring fenced my Black Widow BTA to THE ROCK with my torches. The BTA touched my torches once (under my close supervision of course) and decided it’s not wise to do so and kept a distance since.

And after a week or so of anticipation, my black perculas finally hosted the BTA today!

Vacuumed my sump and harvested bulk of the algae from ATS.

Removed these bio balls (like the Maxspect nano tech stuff) totally, the “nano particles” are littered all over sump, Pretty sure some made their way to the display, and ingested by some.

Doubled my SEACHEM MATRIX. Ammonia is 0. NO3 staying firm at 12ppm. PO4 hovering around 0.1 and 0.2ppm. 10% water change per week with TM Reef Pro.

After 2 months of carbon dosing TM ELimi NP at maximum dose, didn’t affect the NO3 a bit. PO4 dropped progressively to 0.02ppm today, can’t really attribute to carbon dosing, but TM Elimi Phos Rapid (LaCl) which I have been dosing for the past 2 weeks. Guess I will not be buying TM Elimi NP once I’m done with the bottle. Strangely my ATS is thriving but it’s not lowering my nutrients. My skimmer started to pull less gunk with low PO4.

Finally release my PBT from QT today, he’s been alone in QT (IKEA SAMLA 22L) since 16/04 for ICK. He’s on SEACHEM PARAGUARD daily while going through Tank Transfer Method with 30min H2O2 dip every 2 transfer or less. He’s picked up TDO Chroma Boost pellets along the way.

Aquascaping update via WYZE cam on the meat coral and Aveopora/Goniopora side tank view. My Acantophyllia will be on this side once they are acclimatized. The other long side tank view will be primarmy Torch garden and the anemone. The only short viewing side of the tank, will be mainly Scolymia, Bowerbanki, AcansBlastos of sorts.

The upper half of the real estate is still the domain of SPS. As of now, the NO3 is still high at 12ppm, due to the large fish load, and I have just added a foot long ZEBRA MORAY.

My PO4 is down at 0.01-0.03ppm due to LaCl, therefore I’m cutting back on dosing and feeding more.

That’s all folks!

Today is indeed “tank” changing for me. I was greeted with when I stepped into office. All parameters were spot on and no alarms from APEX, but an overwhelming rotting stench.

A710520D-C3E7-411F-9D59-AD9A750552DE.jpeg

Found the cause immediately, my foot long Black widow anemone (Entacmaea quadricolor) suddenly after 1-2 months decided to challenge the WAV. The WAV cover did break off in the fight, but the anemone was all over the tank and took a many of my fishes along with it.

Carpenter flasher wrasse (Paracheilinus carpenteri)
Redhead salon fairy wrasse (Cirrhilabrus solorensis)
Lubbock fairy wrasse (Cirrhilabrus lubbocki)
Royal gamma (Gramma loreto)
Silver belly wrasse (Halichoeres leucoxanthus)
Redfin fairy wrasse (Cirrhilabrus adornatus)
Purple firefish x 2 (Nemateleotris decora)
Ruby head fairy wrasse (Cirrhilabrus cf cyanopleura)
Blue eye cardinal (Zoramia leptacantha)
Blue throat fairy wrasse (Cirrhilabrus cyanogularis)
Yellow flanked fairy wrasse (Cirrhilabrus cyanopleura)
Naoko wrasse (Cirrhilabrus naokoae)
Red head wrasse (Halichoeres rubricephalus)
Twin spot goby x 2 (Signigobius biocellatus)
Gem Tang (Zebrasoma gemmatum)

And left me with…

Powder blue tang (Acanthurus leucosternon)

Purple tang (Zebrasoma xanthurum)

Zebra moray (Gymnomuraena zebra)

Black percula x 2 (Amphiprion percula var.)

Skunk cleaner shrimp x 2 (Lysmata amboinensis)

Not sure if they will pull through the night. And many of my corals are closed and receding.

What is left is an eerie glow, after 10 hours of cleaning, 20% water change (would have done more if I hadn’t ran out of salt) and lots of carbon.

Exactly 2 weeks from the suicidal anemone episode, the remaining fishes with the exception of eel and purple tang, all perished with a whitish coating engulfing them. Decided to take this opportunity to go fallow for 76 days, once I have figure a way to remove the remaining 2 fishes from the tank. So far the corals seem ok, but receding a bit, perhaps due to the low nutrient in the water column (PO4-0.03ppm and NO3-5ppm).

Just transferred all the euphyllia off the sand to their final spot, and laying some tubes on the sand to help trap and remove the 1.5’ zebra eel. That’s all I have in mind for now.

Oh man sorry to hear, this is heartbreaking :( Hope your corals recover well! I'm sure youll come back stronger. This makes me reconsider getting a Colorado sunburst anemone.

Thanks! I’m playing smart the second time by getting this bright pink tipped Aussie elegance.

Whilst going fallow, the corals seem to be settling in to the low nutrient water of PO4 0.03ppm and NO3 3ppm. Started dosing 60ml of RED SEA AB+ daily, feeding POLYPLAB REEF ROIDS and FAUNA MARIN LPS PELLETS weekly.

With the tank settling into it’s pace nicely, Noticed some shortcomings and working on some improvements…

1. The ATS is an inch or two short, resulting in salt stray to the sump area especially when it’s packed with algae. Made a NEW housing with some dark tinted 5mm cast acrylics.

2. Also running out of space to mount corals, even with the addition of the CARIBSEA TUNNEL rock to mount the torches. Planning to rescaping the tank with TLF STAX.

Made a new housing with 5mm white cast acrylics for the NEPTUNE APEX, and made the switch over today…

In the 76+ days of fallow… I had removed my sand totally and redo the aquascape with STAX in the last couple of weeks and gained a lot more real estate.

Totally not liking the bare bottom…but will live with it while I am cleaning the sand. And my meat corals are living in the sump till the sand is reintroduced. Coral placements are not final yet. Will be eventually clearing the top shelf for incoming SPS colonies. PO4-0.04ppm, NO3-1ppm.

How are you liking the stax rocks? I’m not really a big fan of them but they do add more room to add corals. I added sand to my system because I couldn’t stand the barebottom look. Also I think you have too many LPS corals so let me have some so you can have room for your SPS colonies!

STAX does provide a ton of space for my overzealous acquisition of LPS. You have not yet seen my ACANTOPHYLLIA collection down in my sump. I’ll be packing them (LPS) tight, with the help of encrusting montipora, cyphastra, etc. I hope to break the shape of the STAX, which I’m not a fan of too. The upper part of STAX will be filled with ACROPORA. Let’s see how it pans out, if not I will have to like what you say… handing out LPS to make space for SPS. Cheers!
