Anyone have a quick safe way to remove palys from the back glass? Would it be safe to have a pump run through a filter membrane then back to the tank be safe to suck them up as they are scraped off? Those things are spreading like wildfire on my backglass. I have already gotten a bad reaction from these when I accidentally brushed against them where I had a cut.

Wear the long gloves that go up to your elbows and use a net. I would turn off flow so they don’t blow around when you dislodge them.

Jason Fox was right when he named some Captain Jerk palys.

I ended up in the ER after removing a hige colony from the back glass.

My recommendation if doing this In Tank underwater:
1. Set up a siphon tube like you were doing a water change. Can be a smaller diameter tube.
2. Wear a lot of protection: albow length gloves, eye protection, face mask.
3. Scrape off the palys one or few at a time with a glass cleaning razor while hovering the siphon tube over the paly to suck it and all its gunk up before it fouls your water.
4. Replace removed water with new saltwater and add lots of carbon to your filter.
5. Monitor yourself for symptoms approximately 8-10 hours afterwards.
6. I would bleach the bucket with the removed palys in it.

On glass I plucked them out one at a time using forceps. I had dozens on the back wall that i removed this way. Goes without saying but wear PPE and try not to expose them to air. I did expose mine briefly but just long enough to get them out of the tank into a bowl of water. Contrary to what some people say it caused no issues at all with any tank inhabitants.

I cannot support using a standard mouth sucking siphon tube for removing Palys from a tank.

I might lower the water level, scrape and wipe them with a dry rag, refill and run carbon.

And for goodness sake, if you got a rash you must wear the cow insemination gloves and googles and ear plugs so you don't hear the Paly's scream. Good luck. Be safe!

If palys could scream, would we be so cavalier in chopping them up?

We might, if they screamed all the time for no reason
