So I’m currently working on resealing a 50 gal hex. I’ve stripped out all the sides nicely, but the bottom seam has a very thick line of silicone. Looks to have been redone and in good shape. I know when sealing it may be the case that old silicone and new may not mix. Is it possible to do this reseal without stripping the bottom seam and just doing the sides? Maybe even by going over the bottom seam again with new silicone?

since you're reseal the tank. It's better to do the whole tank. Silicone don't stick to well to old silicone.

Not just won't stick well, it simply will not bond at all.
Even the slightest bit of residue will keep it from really bonding.

Many will rub w/ rubbing alcohol many times to try to get every bit of old silicone off glass, takes a bit of effort to do so.

Anything less is just a band aid
