Best food? How to present? He ate once I think (krill) a few days after I got him. I have silverside and he’s not interested. He’s been in the tank for 2 weeks. Given I know how eels are and their whole acclimation period so I’m not shocked he’s not eating. One krill isn’t gonna be enough to sustain them for the next three weeks. Do I have to entice him? Do I have to make it look like it’s moving? or can I just stick it kind of where he likes to hang out and he’ll eventually just eat a whole silverside?

This is not a beginner fish. They usually only eat live food. The only people I have seen have success with this fish feed live mollies. You need to do your research before you buy. Again, this fish is not for beginners, EXPERT ONLY.

I’ve been in this hobby for almost 10 years. I started with only fish and eventually added coral, that being said, I’ve had one that would eat frozen foods and I was wondering if there was a trick or specific food that would make it easier on me for a newcomer. I clearly understand the care level and I can manage it just like every other exotic and temperamental fish in my systems. My question didn’t require multiple reiterations bout the care level. My question involved frozen foods. I appreciate your concern for the animal but maybe ask about the persons knowledge and skills before assuming they didn’t do their research or are new to the hobby. Thanks.

We have different species of eels, we have a small snowflake moray and a large spotted moray. Our small snowflake was doing the same thing until we started feeding cut up squid. He destroys that (and so does the large eel). Maybe give that a try?

Awesome I’ll try it tonight. Appreciate the helpful feedback back.

Absolutely. Still very new to this hobby, but we love it and learning all we have. Sometimes we have to move the squid to make it “seem alive” for the small eel. Haven’t really tried the cubes of small cut up squid, we use the full frozen pieces of large squid and cut that up real small for our snowflake. Interested to see how it goes for you!

Love to hear it! My eel only tank is the same way. My zebras will eat anything but some of the smaller snowflakes I typically feed live so I don’t have to play with a fish the whole time. My shark and snowflake system they all eat frozen that I just toss in. Eventually they’ll become lazy with timed and regular feedings.

Then how do you not know that it requires live fish?!
Again you are assuming. My fault i didn’t word this more correctly for your specific level of understanding. My inquiry was about frozen. This concept is not hard to understand. What part of this are you struggling on?

No offense meant, and I do think Slocke may have come across as a little aggressive, but you did ask "Best food? How to present?" That's something that really should've been asked before getting the eel.

From what I know (and I've never had an eel before) that these eels rarely accept frozen food right away. Most people get them eating live food first, then work on switching them over later, although they often have to keep offering both...
