RO/DI questions

I just ordered the reef keeper 6stage plus 150 GPD. I believe it has the flush valve! I will probably not install it, but store it and drag it out ever time I need it! Anyone have a good recommendation on salt?

Flushing is worthless in consumer units. You do want to install a bypass to the di filters. There is a thing called TDS creep which means the first minute or so of water coming out of the RO membrane has a high TDS. You install a bypass so you can run the water from the RO unit directly to the waste line for the first couple of minutes before you start making your RODI water. If not this will cause you DI to become exhausted much faster.

Everyone seems to like the new Aquaforest salts.

Do I have to install a bypass? I think the DI is seperate of rom the RO filer and I should be able to just run RO water only on this model! Not positive though!

I must have my terms wrong then. Some people advocate running water over the membrane to clean it. which is what I was thinking about. I actually saw one post from a guy that swore you needed to take out the RO membrane when not in use and store it in the refrigerator.

I have heard some crazy things but "store the RO membrane in the refrigerator" have to take the cake for me lol

Ok I have a flush kit on the one I ordered! I wish I would have seen the spectra first I would have saved money

Yes, if you are not going to use a RO membrane for an extended period of time the manufacturers recommend removing the membrane and storing it in a sealed bag with a little RO/DI water in the refrigerator. It's not crazy, it helps keep the membrane fresh.

Wow never heard that before. Learn something new everyday. Still think it's crazy when you think of it but what ever works to get the most out of the equipment we purchase

I suggest if hanging the unit on a drywall wall that you attach a plastic panel to wall first since every time you change filters some water is going to spill
