Hey all,
Just wanted to give a quick update on my RO/DI "project".
I used tap water to start up my 25 gallon AIO cube. Ran it for about 6 months with tap water for WC and every other day I had to scrape a decent algae covering off my glass and rocks/sand every 2 days or the algae would overtake the tank. I tried getting phos removal chemicals and prime dechlorinators, chemipure and chemipure elite....nothing worked.
I installed my own RO/DI unit (RO buddie with DI filter-100 gal/day). Within a week I saw a MASSIVE difference.
1) I dont have algae issues anymore.
2) I havent had to scrape the tank walls since I did a (single) 5 gal WC with RO/DI.
3) I have abandonded my knife scraper and scrubber pad and now just use a nano mag cleaner (one that uses the velcro stuff). Even then, I only do a quick once-over when I do a WC.
4) My water is also clearer.
I have been doing WC with RODI for 8 weeks and its been a breeze.
If anyone is thinking about maybe getting an RO system: DO IT. I promise it will save you time and headaches.
