Very interesting thread. We used to vacation to the coast years ago and I always enjoyed exploring the tide pools. I wasn't into reef tanks at the time or I'm sure I would have brought home quite a few creatures since we drove there. But local water life here is freshwater only :frowning-face:

Well I'm not a rock pool reef keeper so I don't feel deserving of the badge. I would feel like a poser just chasing badges ;)
If you have a interest in native tanks and coast lines join in you may enjoy it but it’s up to you

When we go on our annual beach vacation my wife tries to pick condos near rocky areas around the end of the beach so I can look for creatures. I have tried to bring home some of them in the past and they never survive, so now I just enjoy looking for them once a year.

Hi!
Thanks for the invite! Although I don't have a rock pool tank now, I grew up on the South Fork of Long Island near the beach and I used to keep all sorts of critters in containers on the kitchen counter... (my mom loved it) I used to go surf-casting up and down the beach and would hang-out on/in the Peconic Inlet Jetty while my pop fished.
When we moved to San Juan Island out in the PNW I was blown away by all the coastal life. We ended up at the end of a bay with a huge tidal mud-flat out front. Tones of cool sea-life out there.
I've actually spent a ton of time as a kid and young adult playing/studying/fishing/hanging out around rock pools in both the East Coast US and West Coast US.
I've also had two opportunities to spend time up at Bamfield Marine Station on the west coast of Vancouver Island. One was at a fishing cabin (went to school with the owner's daughter) and the other we actually got to work with the Marine Biologists and went out in the field with them.
Definitely a cool idea for a tank and great way to get in touch with & understanding your local environment.
